Richard Sherman, NFL players rip potential rule change that would ban ‘hip-drop' tackle
Past and present NFL players have not taken kindly to the notion the league may be considering a rule which would make "hip-drop" style tackles illegal.

"Hip-drop" tackles historically have been associated with ankle and leg injuries due to the manner in which defenders drop their body weight to the turf while attempting to tackle ball carriers from behind.
Sherman was named to five Pro Bowls during his 11-year career. He spent this season as a television analyst for "Thursday Night Football." He pushed back against the idea of a potential ban on the tackle, calling it "overkill."
"A desperation wrap up trying to prevent a ball carrier from gaining extra yards," Sherman wrote on Twitter. "There isn’t one player saying "hey I’m about to drop my weight on his ankle when I tackle him." Defense is Hard enough with the rules about roughing the QB and interference. This would be overkill."
Pretty much what happened to Gronk in the 2011 AFCCG. The NFL seems intent on destroying the sport by even considering ridiculous rules changes, such as this one. The irony being, of course, they if they just rolled back all of their rules (such as contact to the head), injuries probably decrease. You’re giving the defender more of a target area without having to think about a flag.
I doubt this gets approved, but, if it does, I don’t see how tackling is possible at that point. Or how the officials plan to call it.
