Last remaining games of the 2024 NFL regular season. Time flew

Just a few weeks away from the three peat. I can already taste, feel, and smell it

I've been watching the NFL since the early 90's. This is by far the worst season I've seen since 2008. The talent and coaching well is seriously running dry. The game is almost becoming unwatchable with every offense and defense looking exactly the same. I really don't give a shit about many players in the league and that's being generous.

I am in the same place. The NFL is the only sport I watch. And I'm hanging by a thread now.

It's part of why this forum is more of a place for a group of imbeciles to shoot the shit about everything than a football forum.

I have always been a fan of defense and power running. That, unfortunately, has been written out of the game.

It sucks - go look at the highlights of guys like Earl Campbell, OJ, Sweetness ... even our own Patriots 5-headed rush monster of 1978. Seeing backs attack defenders as much as o-lineman is fun!

I think part of the appeal of the Pats 01-06 was that (excepting Dillon's 1600 yd season) there were no stat shockers. A bunch of lunch-pail types getting the job done with grit and intelligence.

Now it's all flash, social media, end zone cams.

We're getting old

It's not because the Pats are bad. Even during the 2nd dynasty, I noticed a drop off in quality around the NFL. It's has gotten really bad since 2020.

It's quite sad the game is just not what it used to be. From the rule changes, oversaturation of prime time games, coaching incompetency and just a lack of player talent makes me miss the 90's through 2000's. 90's was my favorite era and the Pats didn't win anything. There was tons of teams around the NFL that were compelling to watch and prime time games actually had hype. These NFL games are just background noise at this point.

I've been streaming old games on YouTube. It's cool because I get to watch Pats games in the 90's I couldn't watch back then. Defenses hit like freight trains.
I'm 42 and I feel like I'm aging out of the game already.

Go back a decade and see some of the games featuring prime Dickerson, Payton, Riggins ... I swear Dickerson could cut 90 degrees while in mid air.

The CBA has had a major impact on the level of play, as has the switch from true pocket quarterbacks to runners who throw the ball.
I enjoy watching mobile QB's. Guys like Steve Young come to mind. A passer first, runner when needed.

Grogan ran out of desperation, kind of like Tarkenton. He learned to pass when the knees got worse. But, he was still a threat.

Pure pocket QB's like Marino, Manning, Brady were fun because they amped up the relationship with their receivers more. Drew was our anchor-dragging gunslinger, but when he was on it was something to see.

Oh, as for Marino, a lot of shade gets thrown his way. The man had to face a far less restricted defense - both in regards to physical coverage and no QB skirts. Yet the man was so quick in his drop and release it was tough to sack him.

You should start learning about and watching UFC. Muay Thai is a fun martial art to learn. So was Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, but I got tired of spraining my ankle and not being able to move my neck the next day.
