In the 1980’s, Dwight Evans was the only American League player to have more than 600 extra-base hits. From 1980 through 1989, Evans had 605 extra base hits (306 2B, 43 3B and 256 HR).
Dwight Michael "Dewey" Evans played with the Boston Red Sox (1972–1990) and Baltimore Orioles(1991). He was a three-time All-Star, won eight Gold Glove Awards, and two Silver Slugger Awards. Evans played the second-most career games for the Red Sox of any player, surpassed only by Carl Yastrzemski. Dwight Evans was not inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, but he was a finalist in the 2020 Modern Baseball Era ballot. In 1999, Evans was dropped from the ballot after receiving less than 5% of the vote.
