Probably wouldn't make a difference other than, not needing to cage up the cat and thus not needing to stuff/pull a cat outta the carrier. And if you aren't careful, the cat will absolutely find someplace in your house to hide or tuck away. My cat goes under our bed....he is a 18 lb. cat mind you.....and I have to literally lift the damn mattress, box spring, and etc...to just grab his ass!

i have one that detects vet visits mentally and makes herself scarce. the boy will try to evade but gives up. i try to close off all hidey space access while they eat in the am so they aren't paying attention. i bring out the carriers days before so they won't know exactly when they are going. i try to schedule them for around 3 pm when they are sonambulent from food and midday crash.
i still build in "catch" time to my departure time estimate.

I do the same shit! The carrier is places some place randomly days before....and I quietly close all doors to contain my cat to one room....then when the day comes...I causally grab the cat and get him in the carrier ASAP. Then when I get to the vet...I just dump his ass out of the carrier by holding it up vertically..... LOL
