The Great Blue Hole in the BELIZE is a stunning marine sinkhole. At the top of the hole is a layer of fresh water, while the bottom is filled with denser saline (salt) water.
These layers do not mix due to their difference in density. The freshwater, being less dense, stays on top, while the heavier saline water remains at the bottom. This separation creates distinct environments within the hole, supporting different types of marine life and contributing to the unique ecological characteristics of the Great Blue Hole.
