LL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — A Fall River cafe is stepping up to help an animal shelter that took in 21 dogs after they were
rescued from a home in New Bedford.
Some of the dogs were being kept in an attic that was more than 100 degrees. Police found they were being kept in unsanitary conditions, didn’t have proper access to food or water, and some couldn’t walk due to having overgrown nails.

When the owners of Christopher’s heard about the dogs at
Forever Paws Animal Shelter, they took action.
“It breaks your heart. You just want to help out,” co-owner Nathan Silvia said.

“We decided to donate all of our coffee sales and then 20% of our overall sales to the shelter,” he added.
Christopher’s is doing more than just donating proceeds. The owner is also fostering-to-adopt one of the dogs that was seized from the home.
“She has a broken leg, so we’re going to foster her first, and then she’s actually going to get her leg amputated,” Silvia explained.
“She’ll be another little addition to our family,” he said with a smile.
The fundraiser will be running until the cafe closes at 2 p.m. Friday. If you would like to donate but can’t make it to the store, you can
message the business on social media.
Christopher’s is also hosting a drive, collecting back-to-school items for kids in need.
