Miscellaneous funny, nice, happy, uplifting stuff.

Did it come with a toaster to play with too?

The house was a wreck, but it was on a big piece of land just off of I-95, and down the road, in Melbourne, Florida. The location wasn't perfect, but it was close to it for a non-oceanfront in Florida. And they were asking only $90k for the place. But it was basically a small house with a large house built badly, in pieces, around and on top of it, and it was completely and firmly "as is".

At the time, I didn't have the money to drop the $90k, demolish the place, clear the house, dredge the pond in the back yard (it had been neglected for so long that it was filling in), pay for any necessary tree felling and yard clearing, and rebuild, so I had to either decide to live in the place, doing maintenance on a jury-rigged home, for at least 3-5 years, or move on and look elsewhere. Seeing a working outlet in the shower, and thinking about just how much work that implied would be needed during those 3-5 years, made that a deal breaker for me.

If I knew then what I knew now, I'd probably have bought the place. It would have helped me to stay in Florida when the shit hit the fan. But it was a time bomb just waiting to go off, and the decision was the right one for someone without the hindsight from 15 years later.
