Roster Projection Video

QB: Agree with cutting Zappe and keeping Milton. Both of their floors are low, but Milton can at least run with it and give the scout team some looks when we play mobile quarterbacks.

RB/WR/TE: Pretty cut and dry.

OL: Any line-up is going to be suboptimal. Brissett may not make it through the year. We need to be active in looking for a LT.

DL: If we’re going to line up in the 34, White manning one of those DE positions is just begging the opposing offense to run. Can’t argue with any of them making the 53, though.

LB: Since I think our base will most likely be the Nickel package, I don’t think Tavai will see many snaps in obvious passing situations. I do agree with her that the contract was odd. I disagree with her that he hasn’t hit his ceiling. He’s a JAG, IMO.

CB: Austin/Wade will likely be a camp battle. Gun to my head, I’d say Wade makes it over Austin. I would love the Patriots to bring Gilmore back. Pair him with Gonzo and kick J. Jones to the slot.

Safety: Pretty cut and dry.

Zappe needs to be gone, still a remnant of the old, disaster of an offense

Jacoby is the present, Drake is the future and Milton is a developmental prospect with more upside than Zappe in terms of arm strength and athletic ability

Zappe's a stinky turd, its time to flush

Pretty solid early projection. Camp is only a couple weeks away so we'll how projections evolve. Also barring injury Zappe will be gone, no question.

To me, Milton v. Zappe's going to be all about what Milton shows in the now. It's fine to bank a development player, but he can't be a development QB who's throwing more wildly than Ebby Calvin LaLoosh.

to me Zappe is a waste of a roster spot, we all saw what he is and its not good

id rather have a developmental prospect at #3 who can help the scout team over a noodle armed, giraffe legged QB who hasn't even displayed a good mental acumen

Zappe is still a developmental prospect, but all he's ever going to be as a middling backup and middling backups arent hard to find.. id rather have a washed up veteran be our backup than Zappe

I'd have gotten rid of Zappe at the very start of the offseason, because he's a stiff and was part of the QB dynamics problems last season. But, since they kept him, I've had to try figuring out why they didn't. Frankly, there's still not really any thing that makes sense but, since they did keep him, what makes sense moving forward, to me, is:

  1. If Maye's not anywhere near being ready to play, you keep Zappe to be the backup.
  2. If Maye's close enough to being ready to play that you're happy to make him the backup or starter, but Milton's a no-go as a prospect, you keep Zappe as someone who can help keep things functional if there's a short term injury to either Brissett or Maye.
  3. If Maye's close enough to being ready to play, and Milton shows some reasonable chance of becoming something, you show Zappe the door.

So, when Mayo told us that the team was only going to be bringing 3 QBs into training camp, I thought they'd already decided which of the above options they were going with. And, now that they've apparently decided to keep 4, while the reports have been largely positive with regards to Maye, I have to think that there's some serious questioning about Milton. Because, unless Camp Kumbaya now involves keeping players that you know you're going to cut in order to make everything a happy Partridge family song, keeping the 4 QBs flies in the face of what the first year coach told us was the plan.

even if Maye isn't ready to play, id rather him be the backup than Zappe, even if he struggles.. id be ok taking lumps that come with the growing pains of developing Maye, id have zero tolerance for Zappe

Unless we upgrade our LT position, Maye could get David Carr’d back there.

yea thats another fear, but at least Maye is athletic so he can escape the pocket but that can also setup other big hits if he's not careful

if we have a top 10 pick next year, they have to make some moves to get a franchise LT

We had a quality franchise LT for the majority of Brady's career with Light, Solder and Trent

All of the "Shit, they're going to get the rookie Carr'd/killed" concern issues could have been avoided just by not cheaping out at left tackle and the Ridley FA bidding. Watching this team fuck up yet another offseason has been very frustrating, because it's been unforced errors almost exclusively.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them bring in one of the vet OT's mentioned in the video. I'm not worried about WR, I think they'll be fine.
