2025 Draft thread

The Atlanta Falcons have released a statement after the son of their defensive coordinator was responsible for a cruel prank call to a prospect during the 2025 NFL Draft.

One of the biggest stories from the draft was the fall of Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Viewed by experts as one of the top quarterback prospects and a likely first round pick, Sanders had reason to feel confident heading into Thursday’s first round. To the surprise of many, though, the 32 first round selections came and went without the Colorado signal caller’s name being announced.

Even more shockingly, Sanders wasn’t selected on the draft’s second night either.

During Friday night’s second and third round, a video surfaced on social media showing a group of Ole Miss students calling Sanders and pretending to be Mickey Loomis, the general manager of the New Orleans Saints—a team that was rumored to be looking to draft a quarterback.

The caller identifies himself as Loomis and tells Sanders the Saints will be drafting him with their next pick. Sanders replies, and the caller says, “Hey, but you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer, man. Sorry about that,” and hangs up the phone.

After the phone hangs up, the group can be heard laughing loudly and saying, “Oh my god! He bought it!”

The video was widely criticized as a cruel and tasteless attempt at a joke at the expense of someone who is clearly in a disappointing situation. Regardless of Sanders’ polarizing public image, the general consensus from the public’s reaction was that he didn’t deserve to be treated that way.

As the video picked up traction, people began to ask, “How did a group of 20-somethings in college even get ahold of Sanders’ phone number in the first place?”

It didn’t take long for the internet find the answer. The man in the light-grey sweatshirt seen sitting on the couch in the video was quickly identified as Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.

After the pieces were put together, the Falcons released a statement explaining the situation.

According to their statement, Jax was visiting his parents’ house earlier in the week, when he came across Sanders’ phone number on an iPad in the family home. He wrote down the number without telling his father, and the prank call happened without Jeff ever knowing the data had been stolen.

“The Atlanta Falcons do not condone this behavior and send our sincere apologies to Shedeur Sanders and his family, who we have been in contact with to apologize to, as well as facility an apology directly from Jax to the Sanders family,” a portion of the Falcons’ statement read.

The team also announced that no actions will be taken against Jeff, but they are working to improve protocols to prevent this from happening again.

Jax’s apology came several minutes later in the form of an Instagram post. In the initial post, he misspelled Shedeur’s name, before deleting it and reposting the corrected version.

“On Friday night I made a tremendous mistake. Shedeur, what I did was completely inexcusable, embarrassing, and shameful. I’m so sorry I took away from your moment, [sic] it was selfish and childish. I could never imagine getting ready to celebrate on of the greatest moments of your life and I made a terrible mistake and messed with that moment. Thank you for accepting my call earlier today, [sic] I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me.”

Sanders’ slide would finally end on the third and final day of the NFL Draft, when he was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round (144th overall).

Neither Shedeur nor Deion Sanders have directly responded to the prank call situation. However, Deion released the following post on X Sunday morning, appearing to be a response to Shedeur’s draft slide.

It's not bad enough that they're crying because Sanders fell in the draft. They have to add crying over a prank call to the list of boo boos for poor Shedeur.

Pathetic

Pathetic

its pretty awful to prank someone in that situation, but yea the media coverage over all of this is obnoxious

He needs a little polish on some of his releases, especially on come-back routes, but he is electric and has some devastating moves to get separation. His average YPR on catches at the LOS was absurd, something like 16 yards... he's not going to get that in the NFL but still, you can see it on tape he catches the ball and is already running past people with his burst and quick decision making.

One of the biggest storylines from the 2025 NFL Draft was Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders' fall to Day 3 of the event. The Cleveland Browns selected him in the fifth round, No. 144 overall with their final selection of the draft.

Sanders was prank called on Day 2 of the draft by a person pretending to be New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis. That caller was later revealed to be Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich.

"[Jax] unintentionally came across the draft contact phone number for Shedeur Sanders off an open iPad while visiting his parent’s home and wrote the number down to later conduct a prank call," the Falcons said in a statement. "Jeff Ulbrich was unaware of the data exposure or any facets of the prank and was made aware of the above only after the fact."

But now it appears that another Browns draft pick was affected. Cleveland's top pick, Michigan defensive tackle Mason Graham, also received a prank phone call on Day 1 of the draft.

"Yeah – that happened," Graham's father Allen told the Detroit Free Press via text message. "Someone made a TikTok while crank (sic) calling him & showed his number on the video ... his phone was getting called nonstop."

Luckily for Graham, he didn't have to wait long to disregard more phone calls. The Browns selected him in the first round, No. 5 overall, making Graham the team's first Round 1 pick since 2021.

Another first-round pick received a prank phone call as well. Penn State tight end Tyler Warren was drafted No. 14 overall to the Indianapolis Colts but received a call when the New York Jets were on the clock for the No. 7 pick, per Fox Sports' Jordan Schultz.

Buffalo Bills' sixth-round pick Chase Lundt, an offensive tackle from UConn, also said he received numerous prank phone calls during the draft.

This isn't the first time this has happened to top draft prospects. Last year, Philadelphia Eagles second-round pick Cooper DeJean received a prank call during the draft.

The NFL announced an investigation into the Sanders prank call and will investigate the Warren prank call as well, per Schultz.

And just like that, example #1 of why teams pulled him off their boards

I think the Giants story may be the best example of why, but that one's pretty darned good, too.

It's an interesting draft, I don't know a lot about these guys other than what I've read and a few videos from YouTube. Outside of the TE Bartholomew at the end I can understand the logic behind each pick after reading up.

I'm not going to freak out because we've had so many drafts where I thought they did well or the experts gave us good grades and they ended being crap.

To add to this the Bears aren't fucking around. I hope Caleb is a bust or we will have more problems. The North is stacked

Was that the Deon comments about puling a Eli?

No

There's a report out there about Shedeur meeting with the Giants while not having bothered to prepare. I first heard it on the radio, but here's a print version of it:

...Ahead of the draft, McShay revealed that his sources said that the Giants sent Sanders a binder to prepare for their private workout. Sanders showed up to the workout without studying the binder, which did not go over well with the Giants.

“Shedeur’s not in play with the New York Giants as far as I’m told. Shedeur didn’t have a great interview with Brian Daboll in a private visit,” McShay said. “An install package came in, preparation wasn’t there for it. Got called out on it, didn’t like that. Brian didn’t appreciate him not liking it.”...
