2023-24 Boston Celtics & NBA Thread

I hope that Tatum is using his Olympics experience to see the areas where he needs improvement. The fact that he needs a much better mid-range game is not news. The fact that he's not a great player off the ball is not news. The fact that he needs to learn to finish stronger around the rim is not news.

But maybe, just maybe, the fact that these things are resulting in his sitting on the bench will wake him the hell up about these aspects of his game that he's largely ignored.

That's all fine and dandy and congratulations to you and Ice once again for the chip, but how about Chef Curry today? 👨‍🍳

NBA’s greatest player of the last 25 years

Tatum with the DNP-CD in a game where the US seemingly spent most of the game trying to lose. Nice coaching, Steve!

They were down double digits late into the second half. Kerr is obviously lying. Something is up, and it's not "combinations".
LeBron clogs up every rotation and forces the team to adapt to his hybrid role of point guard / shooting guard / small forward / power forward / center. Durant, Edwards, and Tatum are now competing to be LeBron’s perimeter decoy. Tall guards / wings do absolutely nothing on the court next to LeBron. And he played 32 of 40 minutes.

Then LeBron should have been sitting more.

Kevin Durant really had an issue with this tweet from a Nuggets / Jokic guy.

Kevin does love to to get into fights of this sort for no apparent reason. I'm sure he figures it passes the time.

Curry’s defense is an issue these days, but anyone still believing LeBron is that generation’s greatest player is delusional. Curry is the best NBA player since 2000. Hopefully the 4th quarter of the Olympics is the final push needed to cement that correct take.

Curry's shooting will always have him overrated. His defense, when factored in, will put him where he belongs, which is somewhere comfortably outside the top all-time lists, and well below LeBron.

His impact on the NBA has to be a factor.

Does it, though? His impact has mostly been that the league got stupid and abandoned post play. This move has failed for every single team in the league not named the Warriors, until this year. And, while the Celtics won with it this year, it took them being about twice as talented as the next team to achieve that.

Guys like Russel, Chamberlain, Jordan, Bird and Shaq changed the game in fundamental ways that were far more effectively impactful than just having teams all decide that having 5 chuckers on the floor is the way to play.
