2025 Draft thread

carter will go top 4-5 for sure
I dropped once, he was still there at 6 so I dropped again expecting to take Campbell. Carter was there. Not sure how that site does their ratings, or what logic they've applied.

If, somehow, the Pat's draft looks like this we should be celebrating.

still familiarizing myself with this draft class

This team needs to be willing to spend what it takes to get a high level left tackle and a high level guard in free agency. If they do that, they'll have 4 of the 5 OL spots locked down, needing just to find a right tackle. Just that pair of moves would allow the team to go into the draft with the freedom to take any one of the 3 oft-named options (Carter, Hunter, Campbell/Banks) with that 4th pick, and either have already covered the other positions in free agency or work on them in the next two rounds and post-draft.

But, just like last year, the first step towards this team showing real improvement is getting multiple quality offensive linemen via free agency.

Some thoughts..

34 million is too much for Higgins for sure, but he's the only guy in his class on the market. Though there seems to be a decent chance he re-signs before he gets there. It's also been reported that Vrabel isn't fond of players with chronic soft tissue injuries, that was been Higgins problem. don't know how much truth there is to that though. Whatever happens here I'll probably talk myself into it.

If Carter is there at #4 Pats should take him, or see if they can get a haul in a trade down. He's widely considered the best player in the draft.
Same with Hunter... Many believe he'll end up a full time CB, and not play much on offense. At this point it seems very possible one of them will be on the board for us.. can't wait to see what Vrabel and crew do.

Hopefully not draft a kicker with #4

I am thrilled with Carter or Hunter at 4. Absolutely thrilled. If both are gone, we better see a trade down.

One thing I've heard a lot about for this draft class is there are a bunch on short-armed OT's that are going to likely be NFL guards, at the top end of the draft. So if Pats are able to get a solid LT in FA maybe they are using that 2nd pick, or if they trade down in the 1st, a mid-first to get a guy like Simmons or Banks..

For FA's it's probably going to be slim pickins.. going to need to be fast and overpay I think.

Absolutely, that means one of the QB's is still there and there should be multiple teams bidding to get to #4 to get him. I doubt that happens though.. teams will talk themselves into the QB's as the draft approaches.

Jump at Stanley and Robinson right away, and pay enough that one of them says yes. That should be the team's first play. That gives you

Stanley/Cam Robinson
LG (Tyrese Robinson)
Andrews (Strange)
Onwenu
RT (Wallace)

At that point, you don't need to go nuts and spend through the roof for the highest end guards, because you don't want to be giving big money to Martin or Scherff given their ages and/or injury histories, so you focus on 1 or 2 from the next tier down.

Once you've done that, you're looking at depth and a RT competition between Wallace and either that first round pick (Campbell/Banks) or a FA tackle, if you go in another direction in round one. And you've got a line that's held hostage to, at most, one position, instead of 4 like last season.

I agree with going after Stanley/Robinson, you get one of them and now you're BPA in the 1st, with the option to trade down if it falls right. They can still stock up on OL depth with another pick in the 1st 3 rounds.. and they absolutely should. Plus take another shot at a WR.

What position does Carter play in the NFL? Is he a DE or OLB? In the Madden 25 draft class they had him listed as ROLB. Just curious what you guys think

Something for people to mull over...

Current Patriots WRs (a/k/a from this past season, regardless of current contract status):

Douglas
Bourne
Douglas
Baker
Boutte
Polk

If you add Cooper Kupp to that mix, but no other high end WR, do you think you still need to consider taking Hunter at #4, as a WR?
