There was a steak place like that, maybe when I lived in Massachusetts.

Durgin Park

I loved that place. It's in my top 5 of most mourned departed restaurants in Boston.

A POPULAR snack widely available at Costco and other major grocery stores is being recalled after multiple customers found shards of metal inside.

The recall initially began with just one item but quickly expanded to cover three more snacks after the manufacturer found they may also have metal in them.

The recall was announced on March 20 by Chomps, which produces beef jerky, along with turkey and venison varieties.

Chomps’ manufacturing partner, Idaho Smokehouse Partners, pulled nearly 30,000 pounds of product after alerting the US Department of Agriculture to the issue, USA Today reported.

The recall originally applied to the Chomps Original Beef Sticks, but after an investigation, the company expanded it to Original Turkey Sticks that were also made in the same plant.

The USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service confirmed the potential contamination.

GROSS ISSUE

The issue was first discovered by two customers who found metal pieces in their jerky sticks.

Neither customer had any adverse reactions to the metal, but the company said it will recall the product out of “an abundance of caution.”

“Our consumers are, and always will be, our number one priority,” the company wrote.

The affected ready-to-eat beef sticks were distributed in California and Illinois.

In addition to Costco, Chomps is also sold at most major grocery chains, including Trader Joes, Target, Whole Foods.

CHECK YOUR PANTRY

The Food Safety and Inspection Service is concerned that some contaminated products are still hiding in customers' pantries.

Those who have bought Chomps jerky sticks recently are being urged to check whether they need to throw away or return the items.

The recalled products come from a single factory, which it did not identify, and were manufactured between January 16, 2025, and January 23, 2025.

The company advised customers to check their labels and barcodes to see if they have been affected by the recall.

The three things customers need to check to see if the jerkey could be dangerous are the barcode number, the lot code, and the expiration date to see if the jerky could be dangerous.

The USDA is continuing to monitor the recall.

It’s unclear if any other states beyond California and Illinois received the contaminated lots.

Costco has not yet issued a public statement.

Chomps didn't immediately respond to a request for comment by The U.S. Sun.

The Chomps recall comes just after butter sold at Walmart was found to be contaminated with fecal matter.

SHOPPERS are being urged to check their fridges after a contaminated batch of butter was pulled from grocery store shelves.

Over 1,700 pounds of the gross dairy product were sold in major retailers, including Walmart, across seven US states.

The affected butter was found to contain bacteria linked to animal waste, sparking concerns about possible contamination.

Nearly 2,000 pounds of Cabot Creamery butter were recalled due to elevated levels of coliform bacteria

It's a type of bacterium found in the gastrointestinal tracts of animals.

It was distributed in New York, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, and Arkansas.

The Food & Drug Administration records confirm the recall affected over 1,700 pounds of butter, packaged in 189 cases.

The recall was initiated on March 26 after testing confirmed the contamination.

The contaminated butter is Cabot’s 8oz Extra Creamy Premium, Sea Salted variety.

It’s sold as two 4-oz sticks in cardboard packaging.

The affected butter carries lot code 090925-055 and UPC 0 78354 62038 0, with a best-by date of September 9, 2025.

Cabot’s parent company, Agri-Mark, said only 17 packages of the affected product made it to retail shelves in Vermont.

The company claims 99.5% of the butter was recovered before reaching consumers.

The FDA has classified the recall as Class III, meaning the product is not expected to cause significant health issues.

However, coliform bacteria, typically found in soil, water, and animal intestines, is a warning sign of potential fecal contamination.

Although coliform itself doesn’t usually cause illness, it could signal the presence of more dangerous pathogens, like E. coli.

States Affected

The recalled butter was sold in the following states:

  • Arkansas
  • Connecticut
  • Maine
  • New Hampshire
  • New York
  • Pennsylvania
  • Vermont
Cabot Creamery in an email to The U.S. Sun said there have been no reports of illness or consumer complaints linked to the butter.

The company added that the cause of the contamination was quickly identified and addressed.

The recall affects only the butter, and no other Cabot products are involved.

"Agri-Mark is dedicated to food safety and producing quality products and is always monitoring its products for compliance," the company said in a statement.

The company did not release or provide public disposal instructions.

The safest way to deal with recalled butter is to throw it away or return it to the store for a refund.

It's ok, man, as long as you only buy from the megacorps or from foreign companies, because all that stuff can be trusted. You can't trust what you grow yourself, of what the local buyers are selling. That stuff might make you sick....

I mean, trust the government, right?
