My Niners didn't really do much today, but we did get Floyd. I think he may be a steal with Bosa stealing some attention he should be able to get to opposing QBs
You let go of Armstead too no?

Surely there were odds somewhere on Brisset starting game one for the Pats. We all knew they were going black this year and he was the best black QB available (Wilson don't count, ask Beastmode).

And what happened to Mayo getting ready to "burn some cash" in free agency? Thunder calling the shots now?

Eh hasn't been too bad. I give it a solid B for day 1.

First day splashes are really dumb. I mean, you’re finding all the B+ players who weren’t good enough to get a franchise tag who think they’re better than what their team is offering, and giving them giant inflated contracts. I don’t begrudge the Patriots for staying away.

I give them a solid D-minus for not going full idiot. Instead they just burned a smaller chunk of money, about $20M in 2024 for Brissett and Bourne, two players who might have been available for vet minimum types of deals. A 31 year old journeyman QB who hasn’t been a real starter (besides as an injury replacement) since 2019 and a 29 year old WR coming off ACL surgery whose peak ceiling was 800 yards.

Don't ruin my narrative you POS

Brissett's being paid to serve as both a starter and a mentor, as needed, and he's getting paid a lot less than what Minshew is getting. His most important function is going to be setting the culture of the QB room back to right, and it's a one year deal for him to do what is considered his greatest NFL ability.

Bourne's number is fairly modest, with incentives. One can argue about how much to pay for a guy coming off injury, but arguing his number generally seems to fly in the face of what we saw today. As another culture guy, on a team that's also going to be looking to revamp its WR group, I'm not seeing the problem here. It's a toe dip into the pre-agency pool, not a full leap.

And, as we find out with these deals all the time, the fine print is where we tend to see that the initial claims about the deals are overstated.

So, while I hate what the Brissett signing likely means, I'm not seeing anything crazy with his deal under the current circumstances. I mean....

I'd also add that Minshew got crazy amount of money as well.

C - for me. No really big splashes after we were promised by Coach Mayo that there will be.

I get IIB's point. I just think that he's underestimating the impact of the big cap bump and, as a result, overselling the issue with what the Patriots paid out. We were watching Guards getting paid crazy money today. We Saw Chris Jones' deal. We saw Cousins rake it in, again. We saw Mayfield get big money and still have reporters saying it was a "protected both sides" deal. The cap jump changed everything, and it hurt the Patriots, because it gave teams more room to re-sign players (and sign players) without having to resort to cap machinations.
