Great Moments in Pro Wrestling

Kurt Angle, Bryan Danielson, Bret Hart my top 3 in ring workers

I wouldn't argue those three at all. A little old school, but I'd add the following two into the mix.

Dynamite Kid
Barry Windham (in 84-86 in NWA, he was the smoothest worker in the world)

A great heat-swerve in Wrestling History is how the WWF masterfully protected Steve Austin’s heat as the #1 face by turning the Rock heel against Foley with the Corporate Champ angle.

The Rock’s popularity was coming on so strong, it almost didn’t matter what he did. He could have potentially beat Austin to death with a chair to a chorus of cheers.

Only Foley was a sympathetic enough character where the Rock beating the fuck out of him against the rules would garner boos. If you watch the RAWs leading up to the Corporation PPV, you can tell the Rock’s popularity was rising so fast he would have, very organically, usurped Austin as the #1 face in the business very early on into Austin’s reign as such.

That set up with the Shane betrayal and the Rock fucking over hapless Foley with the Corporation swerve was top notch manipulation of an international crowd that was ready to crown the Rock the #1 thing in the business seemingly no matter what he did despite it being remembered as of the peak of Austin’s Attitude Reign.

Austin/Rock played off each other so well. Rock was the new/hip/current type, Austin was the blue collar/western brawler. Both had the presence, the charisma, and the delivery. No one else really came close. There were fan favs like Foley, Undertaker, and others, but crowds went nuts for the breaking glass and raised eyebrow.

For a serious pop, go to the first post of the thread. And that's an open air stadium!

Promo video on my first childhood "sports" hero, Kerry Von Erich.

Fun facts:
- Kerry was an elite collegiate discus thrower vying to be on the US Olympic team in 1980. Carter decided to boycott the Olympics, ending that dream.

- Stallone considered Kerry for the role of Ivan Drago in Rocky IV

- Vince McMahon was obsessed with the Von Erich brothers. Despite them not wrestling in WWF, Vince used to feature stories on the Von Erichs in the WWF Magazine. The WWF television program did a 10 bell salute for David Von Erich when he died in February1984. Vince was trying to get Fritz Von Erich to send his boys to the northeast. And in 1983, he reportedly wanted Kerry for the "Hulk Hogan" position as Vince eyed national expansion.

For whatever reason, I never saw in Kerry Von Erich what so many others apparently saw. Maybe I didn't watch him enough.

Did you only see him in WWF? If so, that was in the early 90's when he was hooked on painkillers and missing a foot. That is not a good representation of him.

Texas from 81-85 he was probably the most popular wrestler in the world.

Maybe not a greatest moments in most list , but it is on my list since I saw it live.
Wrestlemania 21 the RKO to the UnderTaker out of nowhere. I thought the streak was going to end there.

Probably that match was the beginning of the streak actually being a thing.

Wasn’t that at halftime of the Super Bowl back then?

Wrestlemania 25 was probably Taker's best work.
