Kraft/Belichick

Rather than clutter up the Patriots News thread or the Coach Diversity Hire thread, I wanted a place for all of the alleged reports of Grandpa Hand Job sabotaging Belichick during the past year (or more). And any Belichick leaks thru the media.

I am not sure Kraft is all that more capable than Biden. He's certainly not more coherent.

On BB wanting to trade Mac Jones last year
He was actively shopping Mac Jones after the '22 season but ownership wanted to see what Mac could do under BOB. He said other teams were definitely interested in trading for Mac.
BB wanted to sign a veteran, (I've heard it was Mayfield). Of course, ownership stopped the trade and asked that BOB be brought in.

Jerod's succession clause
Late last season ('22) it was known the Kraft's wanted to bring in BOB and conveyed that to BB. That changed the dynamic in the organization and got BB thinking the culture
that he had built was being eroded quickly by the Krafts. BB began thinking he no longer wanted to be there as long ago as before the end of the '22 season. The baseball bat incidents
further indicated that BB's authority and influence was being eroded from the inside. BB knew it. The succession plan reinforced BB to think Jonathan was becoming a bigger voice and had gotten his way with RKK to part ways with BB.

On Jonathan Kraft
At a meeting before the end of the '22 season Jonathan let it be known that he was done with BB. JK called BB a flaming asshole and proclaimed he was done with BB. JK later denied that but plenty of people were there to hear it. He thinks there's a case to be made that Jonathan exerted his influence with RKK to get BB ousted and for Jerod to be the successor.

On Mayo's speech
A lot of BB's supporters in the front office were angry over some of the things Mayo said. They thought Mayo was being controlled as to what to say. The entire staff (scouts, coaches, etc.) was instantly divided regarding BB's prior historic success. They thought it could have been handled better.

On where BB goes
He wanted to see BB go to Dallas to get them over the hump to further tweak the Krafts. He thinks it is likely that BB let it be known he wasn't interested in going to Dallas through back channels. He thinks Atlanta is likely now that McCarthy is back with Dallas.

The Kraft lie that they didn't interfere with football affairs is starting to look like one of those lies you need to keep repeating until it becomes true.

If Belichick had gone to Israel and dropped to his knees crying with joy about being there, he would still be the coach.

For the Mayo speech are you referring to the recent HC introductory speech, or this infamous baseball bat I keep hearing about now?

Also, what was the word on that Mayo baseball bat speech? I'm hearing it was some little souvenir bat, but still.

Kraft is edging closer to Jerry Jones type control every day here.

Intro speech.

How did I miss the baseball bat speech? Educate me.

I believe that since Bill was wrong about Brady, Kraft had a hair across his ass and started meddling.

Assuming this is all true:

Why would the owner who didn't have the balls to tell BB to go pound sand over Brady think he's the right guy to be in command after that? I mean, the Brady situation in in Belichick's lap, but that's only because Kraft didn't "meddle" over that in the first place.

I absolutely blame Belichick for the Brady situation. 100%. Well, maybe 80%. I still think Brady kind of wanted to move on. But you get the idea. That was a Belichick fuck up.

Watching Brady win a SB with Tampa caused Grandpa Hand Job to go mental and grow some balls at the same time. THAT is when the meddling began.

The Brady/BB final decision was made by Belichick, but that's only because Kraft decided to let him make the call.

And the decision to back Belichick IS a decision. Kraft backed the wrong horse, and that's led to everything ever since.

I agree with that.

Had Belichick been allowed to cut bait with Mac, we have no idea what this season could have been.

Sure, but had BB not fucked Mac up in the first place, this season could have been much different. And that's the problem with all this. We have no way of knowing which of these two was the biggest problem, and the future won't be definitive proof either way.

I am not of the belief that bill fucked up Mac. Mac is what he is. A tennis player trying to play football. Like you said, no way to prove either way though.

  • 3 OCs in 3 years.
  • Complete overhaul of offensive system in year 2, while letting the OL fall apart. Run by coaches who'd never spent even a second in that new system. And those coaches were defensive coaches in the first place.
  • Not bothering to bring back the QB's favorite receiver, and replacing him with a player who's old team, and most observers, knew was already done.
  • Not bothering to adequately address the other pressure relief valve position, the 3rd down RB
  • Not bothering to sure up the OT positions, while the QB is a pocket passer.

Yeah... That's not on the QB. That's the head coach ruining his quarterback.
