I love Temple. It’s the darkest of the three originals. Movie was a whole vibe and the bridge scene is, for me, the quintessential Indy moment. People getting ka-bobs lanced through their chests, dudes getting their hearts ripped out then lowered into lava.

The Raiders franchise had a direct decline over time, which is rare:

I thought Crusade was solid, and was a great end to the franchise.

Using the "If we knew then..." theory, based on the shit that came afterwards, both Star Wars and Indiana Jones should have ended after the 3rd films.
