**Update on Savannah**
Savannah’s Neuro team rounded this morning and said that her EEG brain waves (the machine they use to monitor her seizure activity) are calming down and looking better.
They will be increasing all of her medications to try to get her seizures/seizure like activity to completely cease in her brain. This means that she will be on her sedatives for a few days longer so she will not be waking up for a while.
If increasing her current medications does not eliminate the seizure activity, they will be trying a medication called pentobarbital. This medicine is very strong and should completely calm her brain. She would be on it for 24 hours.
The doctors likened the pentobarbital to shutting off a computer that isn’t functioning properly and once you restart it, the problem is most often resolved. Similarly, they find that this is the case with many children resolving their seizures all together and giving them a fresh start.
Since the pentobarbital is so strong, they do want to use it as a last resort because it can possibly affect vital organs in the body, so there are risks involved.
We are encouraged today and optimistic toward her future. It’s good to know there are options and different avenues we can explore for getting our girl better.
