We’re outside of 24 hours away from the Draft tomorrow night. Since this is usually when trades start going down, I figured I’d throw the thread up now. Share any news and notes here, and use this as the discussion for the picks.

A report issued Monday claimed the opposite. Jonathan Kraft was reported to be “heavily involved”in the decision-making for one of the most important drafts in franchise history. But according to former New England quarterback and current radio broadcaster Scott Zolak, the longtime team president doesn’t intend to step on Eliot Wolf’s and Jerod Mayo’s toes.

“I was told Jonathan Kraft is not involved in football,” Zolak said Tuesday on “Zolak & Bertrand,” as transcribed by 98.5 The Sports Hub. “Football decisions are made by the football people. Eliot Wolf, Matt Groh, Jerod Mayo and the football staff. Where I thought they would get involved was that, ‘Hey, this team is calling Mr. Kraft or Jonathan Kraft, and they want our pick at three.’ They’re not going to get involved telling you which quarterback to take or who we’re trading back to get.

on sirius nfl tonight, polian (i know but hear me out) said that someone at a site called the 33rd team i think studied 1st round only from 2011-2019 and only 36% of those 280+ players got an extension with the team that drafted them. so yeah...high failure rate for most 1st rounders.

Makes sense in a league that's wiping out its middle class...

I saw that. It's a flawed stat though. Players like AJ Brown (hardly a failure) are part of the 64% "failure" rate.

If a team gets 4 or 5 good years out of it's 1st round player but can't/doesn't resign him, I'm not sure I'd classify that as a failure... At least not in the same sense as a busted pick.

he did mention something about it being mitigted if you factored in players traded to other teams (like a.j.)

Also, beyond what I said in my earlier post:
  • Free agency creates big wealth for the best players by not signing with the original team.
  • The need for cap space (and real money savings) kicks in when you're signing your high end talent to ever larger deals ($50m QBs and the $20m+ players at other positions take that money out of the system)
  • Trades happen.

I feel great if the Vikings don't panick and let JJ fall a bit so they don't give up the farm. Then were able to get Murphy II, Verse. Newton or DeJean with their 2nd 1st. I would be so fired up. But I will be let down, I know it

My preference for my glorious Cowboys

1. Trade back and take Frazier
2. Take Newton
3. Take Mims

In that order
