One of my favorite Larry Bird stories...
In 1985, an injured Larry Bird missed Game 3 of the Cavs/Celtics 1st round matchup because of a sore elbow. During the game, Cavs fans taunted him with "We want Bird" chants.
Prior to Game 4, Larry Bird unloaded:
"Yeah, I heard. They want me, they're gonna get me. I'm gonna give 'em both barrels tomorrow night. That's what happens when you're used to getting only 3000 people and all of a sudden, 17,000 show up. They don't know much about basketball. They don't want me. They don't want no part of me.
Larry Bird would go on to close out the series with 34/14/7 on 67% FG.
They just had to go to overtime to beat a severely understaffed Clippers team, and they would have lost if not for Springer (I know, right?). This is getting to the point of absurdity.

This is something they seem to have ingrained in their DNA. Their effort can get inconsistent, which has been happening with this team since back in the days when Stevens was the head coach, and a bad shooting night can kill them because their style is "all in" on 3s, which is all on the current coach and his love for the "math" that's not actually math.
