Aaron Rodgers Legacy Watch: Can You Even Favre, Bro?

Time to see where Rodgers writes himself in the pantheon of Hall of Fame quarterbacks who went to other teams for the end of their careers.

S-Tier: Brady (unmatchable, the aura alone)
A-Tier: Manning
B-Tier: Montana/Favre
S-Tier: Brady (unmatchable, the aura alone)
A-Tier: Manning
B-Tier: Montana/Favre

R-Tier: Hoyer, Mac Jones, Rodger’s.

Lol I'd love to put him in R tier but he's probably in the B
B-tier went to Conference Championship games with their new team.

Rodger’s went to the Jets.

Most sane people probably have Rodgers near the bottom end of their All-Time top 10 list. Brady slayed him in that NFC championship game w/ the Bucs.

If you have Aaron Rodgers as a top 10 all-time QB, you're not sane.

Where do you have him? Top 15? I'd imagine a 4 time MVP/ SB champ should be pretty high

This is one of those cases where something from Patsfans would be great here. We had a thread that really went over this argument, with all kinds of data and fine tuning. But since that's not here, let me just say this instead of giving a specific slot:

One of the real problems I have with discussions about ranking all timers is that agendas lead to changes in what people claim to be important. For example (and just because you used it, not saying you're wrong to do so), you pointed out MVPs and SB wins. Well, Bradshaw won 4 SBs, was a league MVP, was Super Bowl MVP twice, and was on the all-decade team, yet he gets completely ignored when the talk is about, say, top 10 QBs. But Rodgers has just one SB win, and has at least one questionable MVP win.

Having said that, for me the top 8 are currently locked in. Beyond them, we've got the likes of Peyton, Elway, etc... that I would have ahead of Rodgers. And among the still playing, I'd have to provisionally put Mahomes ahead of him, as well. So that's got him outside the top 10 before I even start thinking about slotting him. And after that:

Is Rodgers really better than Favre? How about Aikman? Tarkenton? Roethlisberger? Kelly? Marino? Moon? How about Warner before he injured his hand? Then there are old timers that I don't already have in my top 8.

No way is Rodgers better than Ben, just prettier. Those two are a perfect example of media overhyping style points.

Ben’s rugged style of football was a LOT more overall productive for his team than the Rodger’s prance prioritizing zero-to-minimal interception risk over the daring to win big football games in tough situations.

And Ben shared a Conference with Brady so his opportunities for a ring would be much more minimized than Rodgers who just had to get through Eli and Brees every season after stomping out his worthless shit division.

Rodgers had 4-5 really good seasons where was among the best QBs in the league. Even in those best seasons his play wasn’t even close to all-time peak level; he always took a huge amount of sacks and took an insanely low amount of risks when the team needed him to carry them. He gladly traded team losses for a better passer rating and traditional MVP headline stats. The advanced stats always picked up on this.

He also was closer to average than elite in almost all of his non MVP seasons. It’s kind of pathetic to look at his career as a whole. When he had a chance at MVP, he’s go on a campaign. When he struggled early and was out of the running, he just mailed it in. Never seen a bigger front runner than this guy. Such a me first, fragile ego player looking to blame everyone else.

Was he good? Yes. Great? Sometimes. Elite? Not really…maybe during a few stretches. But he never had any balls or desire to win, other than to the degree winning would make him personally be perceived as higher value.

His 4th quarter issues, and his issues against winning teams, don't help either.

Media just said he was awesome because they hated Tom.

Yep. Just like Peyton and Brees. They wanted anyone but Tom. It's funny with Mahomes though. I get the sense that they have turned on him because he is biracial maybe? They seem to really pump Lamar and now Hurts. Or maybe they are just tired of KC like the rest of us.

I remember that discussion. It was on the Brady forum, right? It was great stuff. Do you mind sharing your top 8 again?

Nothing was weaker than the media’s attempt to push the Brady 1A / Brees 1B narrative around 2019/20. If DrEw hAd BeLiChIck hE’d HaVe SiX sUPeR BoWLs ToO.

Cam Jordan shut up really fast after Brees’s patented pants pissing in the Bucs-Saints playoff game.

Here are the 8. Depending on the day and any recent persuasive point made by someone that hits me enough to make the move, I sometimes flip Montana and Starr.

  1. Brady
  2. Montana
  3. Starr
  4. Baugh
  5. Graham
  6. Unitas
  7. Staubach
  8. Young

Here's an article on it, from a long time back, before Brady had achieved final status:

I was just coming here to refer you to this post at PF. Young and Unitas are two QBs you often place very high in rankings.

Post in thread 'Brady vs Mahomes'

Unfortunately the post doesn’t use any adjusted passer rating, hence Rodgers and Wilson are there.

Excellent list. Luckman is either #9 or ahead of a few of these guys. In fact, he has a very strong case to be ahead of Baugh.
