Food and Recipe's

BTW, if we've got any gardeners here, I'm looking for someone who's successfully fought off powdery mildew. I'd love to know how you managed it.

You might want to post on the general chit chat thread. It'll get more views.

what are your favorite foods to indulge in in summertime? the things that taste good year round, but are especially alluring in summer. they taste "thatmuch" better.
here are a couple of mine: watermelon and ice cream. i am not a huge drinker but even alcohol is more attractive to me in summer. sitting outside with friends anticipating a nice meal, sipping a mojito (or two) just good shit. you get that nice summer buzz that just feels more intense.

I agree with ice cream and watermelon. In fact, I was eating an ice cream sandwich while reading your post. I would add corn on the cob and salads (macaroni, potato and coleslaw) as treats that taste better during the summer to me.

oh yessss definitely corn...nomnomnom
i eat it only in summer. have a couple local places that have to die for corn. don't even need salt or butter.

I don't really drink anymore, but looking back, I can see your point with alcohol. But no Mojitos for this guy! I would be drinking 151 and Cokes. I've drank my share plus a little. I haven't quit, but haven't had any alcohol in probably 3-4 years. And that would be just a couple of beers at a Red Sox game. I can't remember the last time I was really buzzed from drinking, but it's been quite a while.

So, I posted this pic in another group I belong to and said "I wish I could find the recipe". It's amazing how many people were like "It's just crackers and butter", "you don't need a recipe".

This was one of the replies "My grandmother used to crush saltines in a glass add some sugar and milk, it was a great treat.". I've never heard of that before. Anyone else?

Depression era grandma's know all the hacks
My mother was born in 1918 so she saw it. She was thrifty and knew some of the hacks. I never heard of saltines, sugar and milk before though. In my mind it just makes a sloppy mess.

Like cereal - got to eat it quick.

In my house is was done with leftover rice. Just rice, maybe some raisins (or fresh berries we'd pick out back), milk, sugar.
