hmm not sure im a huge fan of this if it was only for a 6th rounder

even if we drafted one of the top QB prospects in draft, Mac would still be a solid backup on his rookie deal and if he left for free agency and got a decent contract from someone, we would have probably got better than a 6th as a comp pick

i guess they just want to move on from him and start fresh, because a 6th rounder is virtually worthless in trade value

They need to clear out the QB room. Having a former 1st rounder would've been toxic for the current 1st rounder assuming they take one at #3.

Zappe needs to go as well. It's dysfunctional to get rid of Jones, but keep Zappe who was equally as bad.

I am ok with Zappe sticking around. He can start in a pinch....and if Brisset is signed in FA...there's a good chance Zappe is on the practice squad all year...serving as the emergency QB on game day if needed.

That’s really the only viewpoint that makes sense. He must have been somewhat of a locker room cancer and he clearly wasn’t improving here. If they don’t think they have the guy, and I don’t think they have the guy, I’d rather them just rip the Band-Aid off sooner rather than later.

Zappe would be fine as a backup here. Van Pelt goes heavy on a play action as an OC. Play action is the one thing Zappe is actually good at. Mac sucks at it.

I'm fine with him at backup. Agree that getting Mac out of here was a must.

If they plan on sitting the rookie QB for a year, then I would reconsider a better option to Zappe.
