NFL Breaking News Jerod Mayo fired

I would pay a visit to the KFC in Hershey about once a month or two... Anyone know of any good ones in the greater Dorchester area...?

I wish I could help you with this, but I've not gone to any KFC for a long time. After the colonel died, the company started screwing around with pretty much everything he'd done. Eventually, the quality of the product went to pot, and sales dropped. They reversed some of the changes, but it's never been the same. I think the last time I went to a KFC was back when they tried that double down "sandwich" where the bread was actually the two pieces of chicken. That was more than 10 years ago.

So taking everything into account, it's Vrabel or Ben Johnson. The Pats either have confidence they definitely have one of them (likely Vrabel) or they are possibly about to royally fuck this up... again.

Here's the problem with Ben Johnson as i see it. Vrabel has the familiarity, he's been in the building with the Krafts/FO, both sides know it's a fit (likely). Ben has serious interest from other top jobs, he can only zoom right now. The Pats can't get him in the building until Jan 20th. So they would have to wait and potentially lose Ben to another job. So would Vrabel wait around for that? Maybe, but I doubt he'd want to be the second choice in waiting. Also the Krafts got spooked when Jerod fucking Mayo with no experience got requests for interviews.. I just feel like they aren't going to take a chance at losing Vrabel now, for a chance to hire Johnson in 2 weeks.

It's hilarious looking back, that despite all the inside information the Kraft's had (it being their own team and all), they equated other people inquiring about Mayo = can't miss coaching prospect.

He doesn’t know anything about football other than watching it. He was right to fire BB and he’s right to fire Mayo, but the fact that he even felt he had to “lock in” Mayo just shows you he’s an average fan with a massive bank account. Kraft adding that clause to Mayo’s contract is the equivalent of BB drafting Strange in the first round. This was not a hot commodity and, even if he was, so what?

New England Patriots great Vince Wilfork isn't thrilled with how the organization treated his former teammate Jerod Mayo.

The Patriots fired Mayo, a first-year head coach, one day after finishing their tumultuous 2024 season with a 4-13 record. A week later, they announced the hiring of fellow ex-Pats linebacker Mike Vrabel as Mayo's replacement.

Wilfork didn't mince words about the move, which he called a "setup," during an interview with Fox News.

"I think it was BS to pull that. And knowing Jerod personally, I know the conversations," the two-time Super Bowl champion said. "I know what it is. It’s just hard to fathom, but that’s the business when you deal with certain people. I think it was unfair."

While Wilfork disagrees with the Patriots' handling of Mayo, he acknowledges Vrabel -- who overlapped with Wilfork for five seasons as a player in New England (2004-08) and two seasons as a linebackers coach with the Houston Texans (2015-16) -- was the right hire to get the struggling franchise "back on track."

"I don’t question Vrabel’s capabilities," he said. "I know he can win. He showed that with Tennessee, going to the AFC Championship in his first year. I know what a great coach Vrabel is. I’m not questioning that whatsoever. I’m very happy and thrilled for the Patriots to land Vrabel.

"I just think it’s unfair what Mayo had to go through. He didn’t have a chance. It was bullcrap from the get-go, and it’s a lot of backstabbing going on. … We’ll see what happens. It’s all part of the game, I guess, but it’s unfair however you slice it. He never had a chance."

Wilfork isn't the only Patriots legend who believes the organization did Mayo dirty. Rob Gronkowski said it was "unfair" that Mayo didn't get the chance to develop as a head coach.

Nonetheless, it will be Vrabel leading the organization through what will be a pivotal offseason in Foxboro. The new head coach will be the "final decision maker" on personnel decisions despite the return of executive vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolf.

It might or might not have been fair, but to say he never had a chance is silly.. The team left multiple games on the table, as bad teams do. Had they won those games, Mayo would still be the coach.
