March Madness discussion.

To me, the setup of the pickem is a points-based contest. If at the end there's a tie, then the winner goes to the tie-breaker, which is closest final (total points) prediction. Makes sense.

I think you're exactly right.

We're not talking about a situation where Beers and I are tied going in, and might end up tied by picking the same winner. In a case like that, it makes sense to say "You both got it right, but who was closer?". And it makes sense because we would both have been right about the winner.

But, what we've got here is a case where the only way Beers can catch me is if Beers and I choose different teams, and Beers' team wins. Well if Beers is picking the winning team and I'm picking the losing team, who the fuck cares if my score of, say, 80 total points is closer than his score of, say, 100 total points? He chose the winning team in the championship game, and I didn't.

You'd have the same amount of total games won for the tournament if his team wins and yours didn't. You'd each have 46 points and then the person who is closet with their guess about total pins wins.
My advice would just be to pick UCONN for the win. That way you'll be right and the points won't matter.

@Lord Guts @Deus Irae @Beers

The rules from the beginning were that in the event of a potential tie, those participants shall pick the total points scored in the final game as the tie breaker. In the unlikely even that their point totals produce a tie, the pick that is UNDER the total wins. An example would be their picks are 150 and 154. The point total ends up 152. 150 would win.

So shall it be written, so shall it be done!

Total points in a win/lose scenario is stupid. The tiebreaker should obviously be the win/loss. Every single one of you know this, which is why I find it so surprising that you're defending the idea of the loser getting a back door win on this.

And what's funnier to me is that the person defending the win/loss as the tiebreaker is the only person who can be hurt by having the win/loss as the tiebreaker.

But it's ok. I'll solve the problem. Here's my pick for the total points in a game where at least one point must be scored for the game to end:

1 point

Now, unless Beers loses his fucking mind, this is a non-issue.
