Come on, now.

Richardson and Young were rushed in as starters last year. Richardson got hurt early on, and he now has a grand total of 6 games under his belt. Young was rushed, behind a bad OL and with a bad offense and team overall, and he's now getting benched.

The numbers can change, and they will. But, after two weeks, 4 of the worst 5 rated QBs are high first round picks in their first year or two, all of whom started from week one, and all of whom needed time to sit and learn (or at least to adjust to the NFL game). And the 5th is the guy who missed a huge amount of time and seems to have completely lost his game.
 
This is what happens to rookie 1st round QBs.... Here's the last 5 years:

  • 2023: 3 first round QBs, 1 QB picked at 33. Young, Stroud, Richardson, Levis - Only Stroud played well as a rookie
  • 2022: 1 First round QB, Pickett - next QB not taken until round 3, and Picket's already been shipped off to a new team
  • 2021: 5 first round QBs. Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Fields, Jones - 4 have already been shipped off to a new team, Lawrence has been slow to develop
  • 2020: 4 first round QBs. Burrow, Tagovaola, Herbert, Love - Good class over time, but Love sat for years, Tua was in and out of the lineup as a rookie, and Herbert started from the go because a trainer injured the guy who was going to start.
  • 2019: 3 first round QBs. Murray, Jones, Haskins - Haskins is out of the league, Jones has been mostly dog shit, and Murray had an 87.4 rating as a rookie, while winning just 5 games.


Pushing your QB to start as a rookie does not show itself to be a winning strategy.

i Get it trust me. but its a double edge sword. if he sits all year and then sucks it up next year and then you have to give him another year it just took 3 years to find out if he can play or not. not you 2 year rebuild is 5 years. See the jets. the bills and so on and so on. the bills finally got the guy in allen. if you are the best god damn player in college and taken 3rd overall you should be dame close to nfl ready. if you break from the pressure you never has it any way. we all know how many QB's are misses, hell Mac got off to a great start but then fell apart. would you say Mac would be an NFL starter if he sat a year?

But it's not. There is no harm to the QB in waiting until the QB is ready.

A "rebuild" is needed, or not, independent of the drafted QB playing or not.

Why? If your GM is drafting his first round QB for year one, and not for a long career, your GM needs to be fired immediately.

Yeah.... that's not true. We, as Patriots fans, saw even the greatest of all time go through periods where he was seeing ghosts, quick on the throwaways, jittery in the pocket, etc...

Mac was considered the most NFL ready of all the first rounders taken in his draft, and he showed that as a rookie. And, then, in year two, the team fucked him over with the Patricia experiment, made even worse the next season with the decision not to bring back his favorite receiver, etc.... Disaster ensued with a QB who was considered as ready as any, largely due to the team around him, so thank you for making my point, really.
 
I like seeing Joey Lawernce and his new ridiculously bad contract 0-2 with the possibility of going 0-3 this week against Buffalo.
 
A report on Monday indicated Broncos right tackle Mike McGlinchey will miss about a month with an MCL sprain and the team confirmed he’ll miss at least that much time on Wednesday.

McGlinchey was placed on injured reserve while linebacker Dondrea Tillman was signed to the active roster. The Broncos also signed linebacker Andrew Farmer to the practice squad...

The Vikings signed running back Myles Gaskin to their 53-player roster Wednesday, the team announced. They placed tight end Nick Muse on injured reserve in a corresponding move.

Muse will have to miss a minimum of four weeks before returning.

“He did have a small fracture in his hand, and . . . he could play, but it would require him to wear a big old cast on his hand and have that thing wrapped, so Nick’s value as a blocker and a pass catcher for us on game day, we thought it best to allow that thing to heal over the next three to four weeks,” Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said during his media availability Wednesday, via Craig Peters of the team website...

Bills coach Sean McDermott ruled out cornerback Taron Johnson (forearm) and linebacker Terrel Bernard (pectoral) for Monday night’s game against the Jaguars.

The Bills are not placing Johnson on injured reserve and still are gathering information on Bernard.
