Patriots news

This whole "Jacklyn Brisket as QB1" arc is a complete waste of time. What are we doing here?

Drake Maye is the star of the show. Brisket is just an extra (whose parents decided to name him "Jacklyn" for some bizarre reason.)

Everyone with more than a single brain cell knows that Drake Maye is miles better in every facet of football. I couldn't care less what some pencil neck geeks in the media are saying based on a few meaningless days of training camp, especially when both QBs are putting up the same numbers, despite Jacklyn getting reps with significantly better protection. Maye is a gamer, and his skills will shine on Sundays.

If Brisket starts, I am not watching.
Nah. Not with that OL. Throw the black guy out there and let him get killed. Let Maye work on his mechanics in the meantime.

I wonder if they've given Gilmore a call

i guess the first question they need to answer is how legit of a team do they think they can be this year?

Doesn't make sense to bring Gilmore onto a 4-13 team, for same reasons they might be considering letting Judon walk/trade him

but then again they still have a lot of raw cap space, so as long as they dont do anything to create big dead cap hits 3-4 years from now when they'll be trying to re-up Christian Gonzalez, Maye, Polk, etc they should be fine

as Judon said, its not like mayo and Wolfe are getting to pocket the cap dollars they save.. if you have it you should use it

yea hes old and not part of the future.. and he's been straight up stealing money from this team since day 1

id rather they cut him (or trade him to a dumb team), and let a younger guy develop in this offense... JuJu is just a bad look at this point, getting paid a lot to be below average

we have a lot of hungry young bucks on the team now at WR, and i dont think JuJu is really known for his leadership qualities... so lets just cut bait and give more opportunities to the young guys who actually have a future here

wonder if Aiyuk for Judon + a 2nd would work

would solidify our WR1 for the next 5 years but we'd need to be ready to give him a CeeDee Lamb type contract which can always ruffle feathers inside the locker room... but the front office extended a lot of home grown players so they have a bit of leeway, especially at WR with 2 rookies and a 2nd year player that havent established themselves in the league yet

they still might not do that deal, and hold out for a 1st rounder that may or may not come... could happen, we traded brandin cooks for a 1st rounder when he had 1 year left on his deal, but teams arent usually lining up to pay 1st rounders to a WR they still have to negotiate a contract with

i feel bad for Judon

he's done everything right since being here and lived up to every cent of his contract

the fans love him, he's even pushed for free agents, etc to come to the team over the years.. albeit not that successfully, but his heart has always been in it, always saying the right things, doing the right things, players on the team love him

just sucks for him

But getting money moved/guaranteed/increased two seasons in a row, when you missed most of the prior season, is always going to be a tough sell, especially for an older player. It's part of the reason I think players should stop playing the fake years game with contracts, because they get held to those years. If you're signing a deal that's just 3 years, but the team says that it wants to build in dummy years, make the team use the void/voidable option instead of there being a five year deal that has two "dummy years" that you can be held to.

I'm sure Gilmore's hoping for a contender to offer him the money. But, if it's about the money for him more than the "winning" claim that players so often lie about, the Patriots have the space. One year deals aren't problems unless you've got a bunch of development guys you want to use or you're trying to tank. But, if you have those development guys, you're not usually going around scouring for more of them the way that the Patriots seem to be doing.

I'm all for them pulling a Suck For Luck™ in order to grab one of next year's big tackles and still be in position to move around for a WR1 or TE1, so I'm fine with cleaning out the cupboard, but that may be a bridge too far for many fans, and ownership has probably done research into that.
