The players know which QB gives them the best chance to win.
Mayo isn't stupid. Imagine starting an absolute bum at QB over a guy with elite physical skills and the football IQ to go with those skills. The locker room would turn on him instantly. The players know which QB gives them the best chance to win.
Correction, they had no idea about that until Drake Maye walked into their lives. Drake opened their eyes to what it means to be a winner. He is the savior of the franchise.Nah.... Most of these players have no idea about that.

Drake transcends race, even for a Black Panther like Mayo. Drake unites us all.Black Mac has one very important trait going for him in Mayo's eyes.
"Drake should be the starter!"
I’d honestly be fine with an underwhelming season with Brissett if it gave us a shot of drafting a legit LT. The upside is the kid can ball. The downside is David Carr.First I heard of him describing the QB depth this way. And then Jacoby saying he still treats himself as the starter is significant news.
Sounds like the kid is really forcing there hand along with Jacoby looking like dogshit in his limited action in the first two pre season games. However it's notable that Maye is still running with the two's. Maybe they're trying to light a fire under Jacoby's ass.
Because at the end of the day I believe Wolf wants to have him sit for most if not the whole season.

I get the mindset. But the majority of the league has O-line issues. As Kontra referenced I don't think our line is David Carr in Houston bad. Obviously LT is a glaring need. But Oline is one of those things that typically gets better with time barring injuries. For me it still comes down to the O-line. Can they protect well enough for Maye to have a chance to succeed? If not then start Brissett until he get's hurt or the line gels.
Yeah... Every time I hear someone insisting that the kid's got to play, my brain hits the obvious question tree:
- Is Maye going to make this team a SB contender?
- Is Maye going to get this team to the playoffs?
- Will Maye be hurt by not playing this year, or by only playing later on in the year?
- Can a young QB fall into career-long bad habits, or even be basically damaged beyond repair, if they get destroyed early in their career?
Since the answer to the first 3 questions is no, and the answer to the 4th question is yes, I see no reason, at all, to rush this kid onto the field. He's still just 21 years old, and the team blows, so there should be absolutely no sense of urgency about this.
