Did you also notice the praise for the approach they've been taking with the kid, and his talking about not wanting the kid to fall back into old/bad habits?

That's obviously not true. Cassell and Hoyer are prime examples. They'd have been out of the league if they'd been thrown in year one.
What did these two learn by sitting? How to absolutely suck at QB?

Forcing someone to play before he's ready, particularly in a season that has no shot of going anywhere, and surrounded by an untalented team, is stupid. They'll put him in when they think he's ready. If that's next week, so be it. If that's a month from now, or two months from now, so be it.

If you can't have the patience to wait on this, it's a you problem, not a Patriots problem.

He is ready. Confirmed by every credible Patriots media guy.

The quickest way to fall back into old habits is to have a rush consistently in your face. Maye would leave the pocket and cut his options in half. It would make for some fun sandlot football plays, but could also result in turnovers.

They both became starters in the NFL. Sorry they destroy your narrative, but such is life.

That's not correct. Pretty much every "credible Patriots media guy" is on board with the team's approach, and says that the guy is getting closer but still can use the time.

They both sucked and attained no success in the league.

We have much higher aspirations for Maye. He should start so he can get acclimated to actual games. You can't keep delaying his development for no reason. The fact that he is vastly superior to the bum we are starting now and that he will make the OL look much better is a bonus.

Cassel had a Pro Bowl season before...... playing behind a bad line broke him and he became a much different QB under center. Hoyer had relative success as the starter for the Browns for a short time. You're just wrong, Move on.

Pro Bowl is the equivalent to receiving a gold star in kindergarten. Everyone gets one, and it means nothing. Mac Jones was a Pro Bowler, and that retard will be spit shining my shoes in 2025.

Starting Maye is what is best for him and the team.

This debate between us carries a lot of weight, as the winner will decide whether Maye will start, or if we continue with Ghetto Hoyer. Given that I have won convincingly, it looks like Maye will start in week 5.

You are welcome Pats Nation!

It is truly idiotic to start a rookie QB just so he can figure it out. Especially for someone like Maye who while having a lot of upside certainly has his flaws or rough areas.

He needs to start off playing in garbage time and blowouts. Then based on practice performance play more. Maybe start a couple games when we are out of the playoffs hunt to have something to build on for next year depending on how practices are going.

...Wide receiver Deebo Samuel returned to practice on Thursday after missing last week’s game and Wednesday’s practice with a calf injury. He’s listed as questionable, so he has a chance of playing against the Patriots.

Tight end George Kittle (hamstring) also missed last Sunday, but he declared himself good to go on Thursday. Neither he nor quarterback Brock Purdy (back) received injury designations...

Deebo Samuel, Trent Williams questionable for 49ers

From ClutchPoints: “We finally know how the Patriots ACTUALLY got Tom Brady.
And Jets fans, you might want to close your eyes.
Pablo Torre did some digging on his “Pablo Torre Finds Out” pod, and uncovered one of the NFL's biggest mysteries.
We all know the Pats took Brady with the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. But it was actually a compensatory pick.
The NFL has a formula for compensatory picks that’s never been revealed, but somehow they awarded New England the #199 selection for a player they lost.
And who was that player the Pats lost?
Tom Tupa, a dual QB/punter.
Don’t worry if you don't recognize the name. But his story is WILD.
Back when Bill Belichick was with the Browns, he signed Tupa - not to be QB, to be a holder on kicks.
And Tupa became the first man in NFL history to score a 2-point conversion - doing it as the holder on a fake field goal.
Just like that, “2-point Tupa” was born.
And when Belichick went to New England, Tupa followed him. But in 1999, Tupa left the Pats and signed with the Jets, where Belichick was now an assistant coach.
The Jets made Tupa the highest-paid punter in the NFL. And Tupa rewarded them by having an All-Pro season.
But here’s where it gets crazy:
The Jets played him at QB for 1 game due to an injury, and Tupa was on fire for 3 quarters.
But Bill Parcells decided to relegate him back to punting for the 4th. A backup QB then threw 2 INT, and the Jets lost by 2.
That year, the Jets finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs by 1 game - a game Tupa could’ve won for them.
That’s important because the failed season caused Bill Parcells to retire, and Bill Belichick became the Jets’ head coach for a whole day…
Before stepping down and becoming head coach of the Pats.
And because they lost All-Pro Tom Tupa the year before, and because the Jets paid him a massive salary, those same Patriots were rewarded a 6th round compensatory pick:
#199
Belichick then used that pick to draft the greatest QB of all time.
And we can officially thank the Jets for the Patriots getting both Belichick AND Brady.”

Patriots are 31st in scoring at 13 ppg. last in the league is Miami at 11 ppg.. you'd think having an injury prone QB with a history of bad concussions the Phins would've insulated themselves by adding a capable backup or two?
