Super Bowl 58 Pregame Thread: 49ers versus Chiefs

That’s why he won’t last as long in the league as Brady did. He’s more reliant on his physical tools. When those degenerate, he’s fucked.
Either that or he'll have to revert to being a pure pocket passer. Some QBs make the transition, others don't.

Patty is great in the pocket though. I don't think it will matter he's still going to be great.

I don’t think he’s going to let you glaze him my guy.

It is true though he's a great pocket passer. More than a lot of you give him credit for.

Wow looks like the boys in Vegas may tell the refs to call holding..
I see you Pats fans already gave excuses lined up when the inevitable Mahomes clutch comeback happens. It's okay he has ways to go to catch to Brady but he's coming

Lol…I don’t think it matters but it does seem like the bettors new binkie always has it coming.
I don't think it matters either, but I'm superstitious when it comes to the betting public. The oddsmakers usually win

Not really. He’s competent. He’s good on quick passes and screens from the pocket. When the clock ticks, he prefers to bail. You can’t compare him in the pocket to a guy like Brady, Manning, Marino, etc.

I would never compare him to the statues of Brady and Manning from the pocket they're the gold standard. Pat is pro bowl level from the pocket though. What makes him HOF level is the off platform play that he knows what to do and he's also an expert at scrambling at just the right time.

If Lamar Jackson could throw accurate dink and dunk passes like Mahomes, he would be playing in the Super Bowl. Mahomes has become a dink and dunk specialist.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.
Josh Allen too he tried to play hero ball too much in the 4th

There's definitely nothing wrong with that you take what the defense gives you. That's what has kept our offense afloat these past few weeks.

To call Manning and Brady statues really shows a lack of football knowledge.

Drew Bledsoe was a statue. Matt Ryan was a statue at the end.

Manning, and especially Brady, were masters of pocket movement and making their OL's seem better than they were. That skill combined with elite skill at processing and reading a D is much more important than a super athlete who is a dumb QB.

And I'm referring to Lamar there not Mahomes.

Statues? Hardly.

It wasn't an indictment. It's a sign of a smart QB. People used to try to put down Brady for the same thing early in his career. Stupid people.

Believe it or not, I actually like Mahomes. His competitive fire reminds me of Brady. I think he can learn to stay in the pocket later in his career. The question is - will his body let him do that. He likes leaving the pocket for no reason. It’s only a matter of time before he takes a monstrous, career-altering, hit.
