Super Bowl 58 Pregame Thread: 49ers versus Chiefs

Not a coincidence the Bills put up over 20 vs them they just couldn't stop the chiefs offense cause of their third stringers
You play whose in front of you. Our receivers suck but we don't make excuses

The San Francisco 49ers will be playing in their eighth Super Bowl on Sunday, tying them with the Steelers, Cowboys and Broncos for the second-most Super Sunday appearances.
The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to become the first repeat NFL champion since the Patriots in 2003 (XXXVIII) and ’04 (XXXIX).
So what else bears watching this Sunday in Super Bowl LVIII at Las Vegas?

Giving Props

The team that wins the coin toss is 25-32 in Super Bowl competition.
The team that scores first is 37-20 in Super Bowl competition.
The designated “home team” is 24-33 in Super Bowl competition. FYI: The Chiefs are the home team in Super Bowl LVIII.

History Lessons

The NFL/NFC owns a combined 29-28 advantage over the AFL/AFC in the 57 Super Bowls.
The team with the better regular-season win-loss record is 27-19 (11 ties) in the 57 Super Bowls. FYI: The 49ers finished 12-5, and the Chiefs finished 11-6 in 2023.
The quarterback has been named Most Valuable Player 32 times in the 57 Super Bowls.

Making a Point(s)

The team that gains the most total yards is 42-15 in the Super Bowl.
Teams leading at halftime are 41-12 (4 ties) in the Super Bowl. FYI: The last time a Super Bowl was tied at intermission was Super Bowl LIV (Chiefs and 49ers, 10-10).
A team has failed to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl just three times. BYI: The last time a team failed to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl was Super Bowl LV (Chiefs kicked 3 field goals in a 31-9 loss to the Buccaneers).
The 57 Super Bowls have been decided by a total of 776 points (13.6 average). There were 39 AFL and/or NFL Championship Games prior to the creation of the Super Bowl (1933-65). The average margin of victory in those contests was 16.6 points per game.
Just 21 of the 57 Super Bowls have been decided by 7 points or less. However, more than half of those results (14) have come in the last 26 Super Bowls.

Happy Returns?

While there have been 10 kickoff returns for touchdowns in 57 Super Bowls (6 of those in losing efforts), there has never been a punt returned for a score in a Super Bowl; the longest punt return in Super Bowl history is 67 yards (Kansas City’s Kadarius Toney in Super Bowl LVII).
There have been 15 interception returns for touchdowns in 57 Super Bowls. Teams that have returned at least one interception for a TD in a Super Bowl are 12-1 (Buccaneers returned 3 INTs for TDs in Super Bowl XXXVII).

Don't make excuses? You missed the end of the fist Bills game then. And the SB loss to Brady. Lots of excuses still today.

Receivers suck? I thought Kelce-Swift was All-World. Oh, he's a "TE". Right.

A lapse in judgement by the GOAT there but it won't happen again. We about to be champions tomorrow

Pretty simple stuff - 49ers win tomorrow night if they can put the clamps on Kelce and if Purdy doesn’t turn the ball over/gag. If they cannot do both of those things, Chiefs repeat. Points might be hard to come by at first since both teams like playing more man.

Kelce gonna go off isn't he?
