Ok, so let's talk WR. Here's the group that was taken between the time when trades become obviously possible (Chiefs) and the end of the 3rd round:

That doesn't even include Thomas, who was also picked after a trade (Jags at 23), but went high enough that I'll pretend it would have been cost prohibitive to get there. So the Patriots first WR chosen (Polk) was the 10th WR chosen, when the Patriots could have jumped up and gotten any of WRs #5-9, and could also have instead chosen to select any from #11-16.
That's the group of WRs (and some people will include Thomas in there, even while I don't) that Polk will, and should, be compared to moving forward.
