Tom Brady & Patriots Dynasty Divinity Thread

Every time I see that I’m astounded by the stupidity.

Throw away the final possession of regulation because you don’t want to make a mistake and give the Rams the ball back, all so you can:

Instead get a coin a toss where you’ll either give the Rams the ball back OR be in the exact same scenario where you are now (1st and 10 at your own 20, turnover loses the game, score wins the game.)

There is only so far you can go with “momentum” or “defense is gassed” arguments. Those aren’t going to improve enough to justify taking a knee and surrendering the last possession.

Madden was right. The only reason the drive worked was a luck (and high effort) play by Redmond to get out of bounds, and Troy being Troy one more time with the big catch and run.

Had either of those plays not happened then the clock would have been run out to rest the D a little more before OT started.

Add to that Tom barely avoiding a strip sack - could have ended it all right there. What Tom proved in that drive was, young or not, he wasn't going to let the moment be bigger than himself. No one predicted that.

And that attitude did carry over to the rest of the offense. Turnstile Williams was our LT for the game! Against an outstanding DL!

That same drive would have happened in OT if they even got the ball. It’s sudden death either way. They would have simply thrown away the most valuable possession of the season. In OT they would have the same overmatched offense.

In OT, you wouldn't be dealing with the time issue, and the pressure that brings.

Watched the first 4 episodes over the weekend....

Just finished the 18-1/Spygate season.... man.....some sad twisted shit...

SPOILER ALERT:

OK, up to the end of episode 8.... my impressions:

a.) They had these reporters on the show: Michael Holley, Tom Curran, Jackie MacMullan, and Nora Princiotti....

b.) I thought Al Michaels was brilliant. He basically said, "Deflategate wouldn't be newsworthy if not for the Patriots..."

c.) I don't like how the show dumps on BB. Yeah, BB ain't gonna open up..ever..they were lucky that he was even on the show. The Hernandez situation was never going to end good no matter whether someone traded him to the West Coast or not...

d.) Kraft owned up to the Hernandez situation and apologized for it.

e.) Dunno why people gloss over the 2015 season. That was an incredible season...TB beats the NFL in court...we start the season on fire until Chris Harper muffs a punt....and we have to go to Denver for the AFC title game all banged up..yet Brady and Gronk nearly pull the game out...

f.) And they should have covered Gronk more too...

g.) Randy Moss is awesome. He said, "I am a bad motherfucker...." God, that '07 season man. All I can say is, "Randy Moss, Man"....

h.) Watching it with my wife has been interesting. She isn't a football fan. She is an engineer who got SUPER FUCKING PISSED about Deflategate....then become a Tommy fan big time. So, she missed most of 2000-2014...so I have been pausing the show and explaining to her where we lived at the time and what happened.....and things like, "You remember me being livid online around 2007? Yea, that is fucking why.."

i.) Deion Branch man....he looks haunted by the Hernandez thing. Sad....didn't know that he lived across the street and Aaron's lady would come over from time to time when she wanted Aaron to let off some steam. Chilling....

SPOILER ALERT:

Finished episodes 9 & 10 last night after they popped up around 9PM my time (PST), my impressions:

- Kraft said, "My coach is a pain in the tush", LOL.

- Kraft also said that he had no doubt that Brady would have succeed here if we fired Belichick back in 2017.

- Malcolm Butler STILL DOES NOT KNOW WHY HE WAS BENCHED. Hmmmm...at least that is what he said.

- Kraft said the benching was a 'personal' thing, not football related.

- And Kraft overruled Belichick in bringing back Brady's witch doctor (Alex G.) to appease Brady in the end.

- But the series redeemed itself with a good ending in which Pioli said that the "Brady vs. Belichick" argument was just disrespectful for every coach, every player, and everyone involved in the dynasty.... and ended with shots of different players like Harrison, Milloy, Law, Moss, Faulk, McGinest, etc...etc.... and then with Brady's week 1 appearance in Foxborough (the Boutte not putting his foot down loss game) giving thanks to all the players...fans....and saying he is a "Patriot for life".

It was a good series, but left so much more out....but yeah...hard to condense 20 years into 10 episodes...all of which were under an hour each...

Someday I think I'd like to edit up a documentary featuring a SINGLE play from every season that decided everything for the Patriots....like for example:

2001: Vinatieri's kick in the snow bowl to tie it late.
2002: A sure fire interception going through Leonard Myers hands.
2003: Vinatieri's kick in the cold vs. the Titans.
2004: Harrison's pick to end the Eagles final grasp.
2005: Champ Bailey interception and what should have been a forced touchback by Ben Watson.
2006: Phantom PI call on Ellis Hobbs.
2007: The not called holding before the helmet catch or the Samuel dropped interception or not stopping Brandon Jacobs on 4th and 1.
2008: Favre to Keller completion on 3rd and 19 in OT.
2009: We just sucked that year.
2010: Pat Chung's fake punt call just before half time allowing the Jets to score before halftime.
2011: Manningham catch because Chung cheated inside too much.
2012: Dunno if there was ONE play this season...but we certainly couldn't stop Bolden repeatedly.
2013: Gronk's forearm injury in the divisional round. Although, I don't think that team beats the Seahawks that year...but would have done better than the Broncos did.
2014: Butler interception.
2015: Gostkowski's missed PAT or Chris Harper's muffed punt return late in the year.
2016: Oh man....so many...but I'd say Hightower's strip sack was the biggest play.
2017: Aside from the Butler benching....I'd say Johnson Bademosi missing one easy tackle in the SB.
2018: Brady to Gronk one last time to set up a Michel TD.
2019: Allowing the Ryan Fitzpatrick Dolphins to score late...maybe we wouldn't have won the Superbowl, but we would have been at home vs. the Chiefs if we won on divisional weekend. Also, the N'Keal Harry TD OOB call when he was in bounds!

That would be fun to watch though....
