2023-24 Boston Celtics & NBA Thread

I just watched the March 1st match up between the Celts/Mavs in TD Garden.... my impressions:

1.) Mavs had a different line up before inserting Derick Jones Jr. in the line up for good (better D) after this game.

2.) We basically let Doncic eat....but put Brown on him. Doncic had a big line of 30+ points...and 10+ assists....almost 10+ rebounds, IIRC...or he had a triple double. But Doncic needed 30+ shots to get his points. So, Brown was somewhat effective.

3.) The Mavs are really good at corner threes....something the Celts give up a lot (we were lucky through the first 3 rounds...so many corner misses) on the weak side if we double or are caught in a bad switch and trying to recover.

4.) I like our chances with Holiday/White splitting their work on Irving....and think we will throw Tatum/Brown/Holiday/White all on Doncic. We really can switch with any offense....especially when we put Tatum at center and go small with Brissett/Hauser.

5.) I am kinda glad we are not facing the Timberwolves...Karl Anthony Towns and Gobert would be tough in the paint...and KAT was starting to heat up on his threes late in that series. But that being said...Gafford, Lively, Washington, and Kelber will be tough to handle....but I like our chances with Horford/Kornet/Tillman when we have to play the 2nd unit for a stretch....

Great breakdown.

Celtics lead the league in opposing corner 3%. Mavs lead the league in corner 3%.

Gotta give Dallas credit for figuring out how to build the team this way. No sense having redundant scoring / playmaking so fill out lineup with the rim protectors and defenders.

Dallas has improved. Celtics are still marginally better. It will come down to whether the Celtics play smart in crunch time by putting the ball in the hands of White and Holiday, or if J&J can’t resist playing dumb hero ball down the stretch. It’s all in the Celtics hands.

Yeah fuck the NBA. What are they thinking? Only saving grace is it may be good for Porzingis.

The Celtics should be the overwhelming favorite here. They have the better team and the gap between Tatum and Doncic is not that big. I wouldnt be surprised if it were a gentlemen sweep. The Celtics have been here before , but I will say this if they fail to win this season I don't see Tatum being a championship caliber star

Losing that TNT studio show isn't going to help with ratings anywhere. Most watchers I know absolutely loved that group:

The National Basketball Association is finalizing media deals with NBC, Amazon, and Disney-owned ESPN after the end of its contract with TNT, potentially bringing in upwards of $76 billion in media revenue for the NBA over the next 11 years.

First reported by the Wall Street Journal, the negotiation process is still ongoing, but all three networks have indicated that they are willing to pay massive sums for the coveted right to air NBA games...

...These deals will increase the NBA’s annual fees by roughly 2.5 times, nearing almost $7 billion per season.

Warner Bros. Discovery, which has held the rights to air NBA games on TNT since 1988, had the chance to renew the deal ahead of the April 22 deadline but declined to do so. According to the Journal, the network was “unhappy with the price”—$2.2 billion per season—“relative to the value of the package,” and felt that it was losing “too much valuable content” to ESPN affiliates...

They should've started yesterday, then we could've had Friday and Sunday. One Friday game and no Saturday game? Is that weird?

Yup, weird AF.

It is not like they are competing with the NFL.

But one good thing...it does benefit Porzingis (calf), Kornet (hand), and Horford (more rest for the old man).

And, while Boston is up by a nice margin, the way they let Dallas go on an 8-0 run at the end of the half is why people don't trust the Celtics.

After opening up a 30 point lead, the Celtics have begun to shit all over themselves, and the lead is now under 10. This is where having a good coach would have come in handy.
