2023-24 Boston Celtics & NBA Thread

Porzingis in on the bench, Tatum still can't shoot (He's rebounding and passing well, though, to his credit), and Boston is now up by 14.

Nice total team effort win yesterday.

I am surprised that we won a game despite shooting under 40% from downtown. The defense has been very stellar....

Now we are 8-2 at home and still 6-0 on the road these playoffs. The last time we lost a game was May 9th, 2024....32 days ago...and it will be 34 days by tip off on Wednesday. Winners of 9 in a row.

If....*IF*...we can take Wednesday's game in big D...I will love our chances.

In 2022, it took us 26 games to reach win #2 in the NBA Finals (game 3). We are here at the same point after only 16 games.

Porzingis has a tear in the OTHER leg now. According to the breaking news, he's going to be day-to-day, but he could be done, depending upon how risk averse the team decides to be.

Celtics in 5 without KP
Celtics in 4 with KP

I still think you guys match up extremely well. The games are just likely to be a bit closer now, but the C’s should win the title. Basically everything fell in place for a championship run.

I hear what you're saying, but Kornet having to play real minutes concerns me.

Congrats you Celtics fans. Don't care much about the Mavericks or Boston for that matter, but a historical franchise on the verge of another chip is always a good story.

You still want the coach gone @Deus Irae ?

I don't remember if I ever went to the point of saying I definitely wanted him gone (not saying that I didn't but I don't remember if I did, unlike with BB, whom I definitely said should have been gone), but I do still hate the system, and I do still think the coach is a problem. This team didn't win because of its system. The team won because it was, far and away, the most talented team in the NBA, and because it didn't have to play either Denver or Minnesota, either of which would have been a tougher matchup for Boston..

But I will give the coach credit for how he coached this series while dealing with the Porzingis situation. Other than game four (and I'm not putting that on him), he was able to get the team to do what was needed. He certainly needs to get some credit for keeping the team from folding under pressure for the vast majority of the finals. And, as we've seen, with this team, that's not a sure thing.

And, that being the case, I would say that he deserves the chance to stay on as the coach for next season, and to show that he's learning and improving on the job, and not being so foolishly reliant on that baby poo soft offense built around nothing but three pointers and hero ball.

It has begun:

At this point they already have all the key players. They just need to try to re-sign them to create a 3+ year window. Stevens is the guy making the moves anyway.

But one of the big reasons for the win this season was that they went out and significantly upgraded the coaching staff, and this is a blow to that.
