2023-24 Boston Celtics & NBA Thread

Big win in game one for the Celtics. The Mavericks had no answer for Porzingas, and the Tatum/Brown Tandem's defense was game change level. Tatum just has to avoid the sloppy turnovers, and look for his shot a tiny little bit more often when he takes the ball to the net, because the Mavericks were actually sitting on the pass out when he was driving.

Game 1 thoughts:

1.) We never doubled Doncic nor Irving and stayed home on all shooters. Wow, we really have a versatile defense...

2.) Sup with Tatum driving into the paint and dishing? Not that I mind the results....but it seemed to be his entire purpose for game 1?

3.) Porzingis definitely looked like he should just start game 2. He only logged like 25 minutes....and Horford got an extended rest.

4.) Kidd threw in the towel with 6 minutes left in the 4th.....that 14-0 run to cap the 3rd quarter was HUGE, IMO. I was worried when a 29 point lead was whittled down to 8, but at the same time I could see that the Mavericks expended a lot of energy on that 22-9 run to start the 3rd quarter.

5.) Hauser finally looked "normal" hitting down some shots.

6.) Pritchard was 0-5 from downtown same as Irving...interesting.

7.) Oshane Brissett, Svi Myhailiuk, and Luke Kornet even saw some floor time. Kornet's hand looks OK now.

8.) Thought it was interesting that Dereck Lively Jr. played more than Gafford. I think aside from all the fouls...he was pretty effective on defense against us. Bears watching in games 2-7.

9.) Both teams were terrible at the charity stripe! 68% and 63% for the Celts and Mavs respectively. Weird!!

10.) Jaylen really did a good job in the defensive end.

Kinda wish the Baltic states could revert to a Yugoslavian type of Olympic team. It would be very entertaining to see a team challenge the US with Jokic, Doncic and the Bogdanovics.

Maybe the Olympics should just regionalize some of the big team sports. Would be so much better for fans.

End of first quarter and it’s 28-25 Mavericks.

Everything for the Mavs went their way in the first quarter.

Celtics are going to win this game by 15+ points.

Calls must have been 9:1 in favor of Dallas in Q1. Flops, non-shooting fouls called as such, etc.

As soon as Dallas hits their cold stretch, this game is over.

Boston's still playing horribly ragged basketball, the team's 3 pointers aren't falling, and Tatum's shooting as if he's blind, and Boston is, somehow, still ahead by a point.

Okay i'm tuned in now, I'm done posting meme's... for now.

Boston is 4 for 23 from behind the arc, and they still lead by double digits right now
Dallas has probably been worse on 3s. 4-20 but many of theirs have been literally uncontested shots.

Figures…like 12 in-and-out threes and then Pritchard banks in a 40 footer.
