But they really didn’t.
The 71 Dolphins lost in the Super Bowl. The 72 and 73 teams won championships.
The 74 and 75 Steelers won the Super Bowl. The 76 team lost in the AFCCG to Oakland.
The 88 and 89 Niners won the Super Bowl. The 1990 team made the NFC Championship and lost 15-13 to the Giants after Joe Montana suffered a major injury.
The 92 and 93 Cowboys won the Super Bowl. The 94 team lost to the 49ers in an epic juggernaut matchup, where it was essentially the Super Bowl. The 95 team won the Super Bowl.
The 96 Broncos dominated the regular season before being upset by the Jags in the Divisional Round. The 97 and 98 Broncos won the Super Bowl.
The 14, 16, and 18 Patriots won the Super Bowl. In 2013, they lost Gronkowski and lost in the AFCG to Denver’s record setting offense. In 2015, despite a plethora of players on IR, they lost in the AFCCG to Denver on a missed extra point. In 2017, they lost Edelman and lost in a shootout to the Eagles where Brady threw for over 500 yards.
So let’s stop with this embarrassing Chiefs-centric history bullshit. It’s disrespectful to other teams, acting like a 5-7 year run of dominance is so unprecedented. The Chiefs completely shit the bed and weren’t as close as some of these other teams, who lost in some excruciating ways against juggernauts and dealt with notable injuries.
That doesn’t even count pre Super Bowl teams. Luckman’s Bears, Graham’s Browns, Unitas’s Colts, and the team that did actually 3 peat: Starr’s Packers.
There have been a lot of incredible QBs and teams in NFL history. The recency bias is nauseating. Fuck the Chiefs stans. The Patriots had an unprecedented 19 year run of contention. The Chiefs at this point are simply the latest iteration of the premier franchise, which has been a mainstay in the league’s history. Really the only thing these tHe GoAt fuckwads have going for them is future projections, or in other words, absolutely nothing.
