And has all of that really hindered us from signing major talent? Only exampleI mean that they've spent less money on player salaries than any other team in the league. Kraft has acknowledged that, without acknowledging that specific ranking, and he's pinned the "blame" on Belichick, essentially by saying that he was all for spending more, but BB chose not to, while also trying to use the "But we won" argument to blunt the issue:
Robert Kraft speaks in depth about Patriots’ cash spending
is in recent memory (D. Hopkins)... it wasn't why Brady nor Gronk left for greener pastures...
From 2000-2024, what FAs did we totally whiff on? When we had cap space in 2021
and two QB's with one on a rookie contract and another on a 1M contract......we surely didn't have a problem spending millions on Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, and Matt Judon...amongst others...
If we were the Celtics..whiffing on KD after
bringing in Brady to court him even...
I would be with you on the "Krafty is a cheap bastard" bandwagon...
The man spends money..a lot of it...
At the end of the day, the cap represents actual spending the same way accrual
based accounting does, IMO. We are gonna spend 250M this year whether that is all up front cash or past spent cash....doesnt't matter. If our cap CASH spending is only 25M with another 175M in dead money...it is because we already gave some players 175M in the past.
Sure, you can get creative with accounting and keep kicking the can down the road...but there is a reason we paid Cam
only 1M to be one of the only 32 people on the planet to start a NFL game on Sundays......
