Patriots news

I mean that they've spent less money on player salaries than any other team in the league. Kraft has acknowledged that, without acknowledging that specific ranking, and he's pinned the "blame" on Belichick, essentially by saying that he was all for spending more, but BB chose not to, while also trying to use the "But we won" argument to blunt the issue:

Robert Kraft speaks in depth about Patriots’ cash spending
And has all of that really hindered us from signing major talent? Only example
is in recent memory (D. Hopkins)... it wasn't why Brady nor Gronk left for greener pastures...

From 2000-2024, what FAs did we totally whiff on? When we had cap space in 2021
and two QB's with one on a rookie contract and another on a 1M contract......we surely didn't have a problem spending millions on Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, and Matt Judon...amongst others...

If we were the Celtics..whiffing on KD after
bringing in Brady to court him even...
I would be with you on the "Krafty is a cheap bastard" bandwagon...

The man spends money..a lot of it...

At the end of the day, the cap represents actual spending the same way accrual
based accounting does, IMO. We are gonna spend 250M this year whether that is all up front cash or past spent cash....doesnt't matter. If our cap CASH spending is only 25M with another 175M in dead money...it is because we already gave some players 175M in the past.

Sure, you can get creative with accounting and keep kicking the can down the road...but there is a reason we paid Cam
only 1M to be one of the only 32 people on the planet to start a NFL game on Sundays......

You don't figure that Brady, just for the one, might have stayed if he'd been given the appropriate salary for the appropriate number of years? Given that what he was asking for was the appropriate salary for the appropriate number of years, and that this was wide out in the open as opposed to being any kind of secret, I think we're going to have to disagree on this.

Are you really going to have me go show all the FAs they screwed the pooch on? The list is long, and distinguished, like my johnson.

And I'm not sure that pointing to the one season where they really spent, and did a pretty poor job of it, is really the way you want to go with this.

Why? The miss on Durant wasn't about money.

Not in comparison to every other owner in the NFL over the past decade.

At the end of the day, the cap represents actual spending the same way accrual
based accounting does, IMO.

That is simply not correct.

They've spent at the very bottom for players over the past decade. That's just the reality. They paid Cam that money because he was the only one left, and was desperate for a job, and they did that rather than spending for one of the better QBs that had been available earlier in the offseason. And they got what they paid for, which was a guy who didn't belong starting NFL games.

They were able to get away with saving money because they had Brady, who is the greatest force multiplier on offense that football has ever seen. Once Brady left, that system crashed. That's bad enough. What makes it worse is that they might have won more SBs if they hadn't been skimping. A better depth player, or a top end player somewhere, might have made all the difference against the Eagles in 2017, for example, once BB decided that he'd rather lost a game than play Butler. The same could be said for 2015 where, again, having another player might have made the difference when the injuries were killing the team in that playoff season. That's just two obvious seasons, so I'm not sure why you're white knighting something that is what it is.

I actually love Kirk Cousins and he gets a lot of blame for things out of his control. He's been consistent and steady. Obviously not the elite of elite but he's been a very good QB for us. Unfortunately looks like we are losing him in FA
Where do you think he's going?

Oh I'll bite. There ones that come to mind are:

Ty Law in 2005. They were on the bring of a 3 peat and Bill just dismantled his secondary for no reason.

Branch and Givens in 2006 turned out to be another wasted year.

Emmanuel Sanders in 2014. He had said he was ready to join NE, but decided not to because Bill wouldn't give him the contract he gave Amendola in 2013. This came back to haunt them badly in the 2015 AFCCG.

Akiem Hicks was a massive goof in 2015. Hicks said Bill's 11th hour push didn't was too late as his mind was already made up playing in Chicago.

Bill did the same thing to Thuney in 2021. By the way, anyone else notices he's got 4 rings now?

DeAndre is the latest "miss", but it would've taken a lot more money than Tenn to lure him to NE because of O'Brien.

Guys that they missed out on because they were idiots: Derrick Mason in 2005 and Steve Smith in 2014.

Any others that I didn't mention that come to mind please share.

Falcons, Colts, or staying in Minnesota would be my guesses.
Looking at the teams, there could a lot of openings.

I'll add Giants, Steelers, Titans, TB if Baker leaves, Broncos and Raiders.

Colts? They are going to give the keys back to their 1st round QB I imagine. Forgot his name. He's black, and he can run. That should narrow it down.
That was my bad. “Donks” is what I meant to say. Especially if they can get Cousins for cheap and/or under a 1-year deal. I’ll edit my post so I don’t look like even more of an idiot than I usually do.

Where do you think he's going?

I'm going to have fun with a bold prediction that has no shot, but really should happen based upon history:

  1. 49ers trade Purdy for draft picks
  2. 49ers sign Cousins
  3. 49ers either win Super Bowl in the next 2 years or end up with a new head coach

Thank you. Welcome to you, and please feel free to bring along anyone who's not too insane, regardless of team or political affiliation.

But not the Irish.

We dragged Deus out of retirement! It seems he likes free speech and the absence of censorship.

He and Sensei are the MVP's of posting here. We'd be struggling to get to where we are so far without those two.

I'm sure others would come over. I'll suggest some names I have in mind and let Guts do the recruiting.

Thank you.

The thing is, Ian claims we trying to steal "his" people, as he put it. We just want to make people aware that we exist. Folks can post at both places easily enough. If some decide they like freedom of speech and the fun atmosphere here, so be it.

this sounds like b.s. i'd love to know who told him whatever it was. say what you want about bb but he has listened to his own players call him a "liar" publicly (law), refuse to speak to him (milloy, seymour, vrabel) etc. and has never ONE TIME said anything shitty about them publicly. and all those guys have a good relationship with him now afaik. sure there are ones who are mostly dislike of bb like amendola and welker too. but again,he has never spoken ill of them publicly. and freaking butler CAME BACK TO THE TEAM. look at actions, don't listen to kraft's bullshit.

Kraft really is a proper Kunt, isn't he?
