By all reports I have read it looks like the ATL is his most likely destination.Where do you think he's going?

they said on sirius nfl that his wife is from atl which sounds like the rationale behind it.By all reports I have read it looks like the ATL is his most likely destination.

Makes sense. Atlanta it is.they said on sirius nfl that his wife is from atl which sounds like the rationale behind it.
You don't figure that Brady, just for the one, might have stayed if he'd been given the appropriate salary for the appropriate number of years? Given that what he was asking for was the appropriate salary for the appropriate number of years, and that this was wide out in the open as opposed to being any kind of secret, I think we're going to have to disagree on this.
Are you really going to have me go show all the FAs they screwed the pooch on? The list is long, and distinguished, like my johnson.
And I'm not sure that pointing to the one season where they really spent, and did a pretty poor job of it, is really the way you want to go with this.
Why? The miss on Durant wasn't about money.
Not in comparison to every other owner in the NFL over the past decade.
That is simply not correct.
Again, that is not correct.
They've spent at the very bottom for players over the past decade. That's just the reality. They paid Cam that money because he was the only one left, and was desperate for a job, and they did that rather than spending for one of the better QBs that had been available earlier in the offseason. And they got what they paid for, which was a guy who didn't belong starting NFL games.
They were able to get away with saving money because they had Brady, who is the greatest force multiplier on offense that football has ever seen. Once Brady left, that system crashed. That's bad enough. What makes it worse is that they might have won more SBs if they hadn't been skimping. A better depth player, or a top end player somewhere, might have made all the difference against the Eagles in 2017, for example, once BB decided that he'd rather lost a game than play Butler. The same could be said for 2015 where, again, having another player might have made the difference when the injuries were killing the team in that playoff season. That's just two obvious seasons, so I'm not sure why you're white knighting something that is what it is.
Oh I'll bite. There ones that come to mind are:
Ty Law in 2005. They were on the bring of a 3 peat and Bill just dismantled his secondary for no reason.
Branch and Givens in 2006 turned out to be another wasted year.
Emmanuel Sanders in 2014. He had said he was ready to join NE, but decided not to because Bill wouldn't give him the contract he gave Amendola in 2013. This came back to haunt them badly in the 2015 AFCCG.
Akiem Hicks was a massive goof in 2015. Hicks said Bill's 11th hour push didn't was too late as his mind was already made up playing in Chicago.
Bill did the same thing to Thuney in 2021. By the way, anyone else notices he's got 4 rings now?
DeAndre is the latest "miss", but it would've taken a lot more money than Tenn to lure him to NE because of O'Brien.
Guys that they missed out on because they were idiots: Derrick Mason in 2005 and Steve Smith in 2014.
Any others that I didn't mention that come to mind please share.
1.) Brady was paid just fine throughout his career. We had an unique situation with Brady...he even said so himself. But I agree that in 2017 he was looking for a longer term deal and did not get it. If anything, we should have given him a 4 year deal in 2017 so he could end his career as a Patriot. However, we routinely gave him tons of money via signing bonuses with void years on the back end.
3.) The 2021 season is when we opened up the coffers. Results don't matter in terms of our discussion.
4.) OK, Durant is a bad example. But I was using it as an example where the Celtics whiffed on a FA because the guy did not want to come here even if we had Brady on the negotiating team.
5.) As for Cam, we gave him 1M because he was available AND because we ate about 25M of dead money from Brady...which is a good example that the bill always must be paid.
Bottom line: Agree to disagree that Kraft is a "cheapskate".My stance is that the Patriots front office spent to the cap every year and players got paid. The Patriots paid well for GOOD players and tried to develop WRs and OL-men on the cheap because Brady could make it work. But notice that Gronk and Brady were well compensated...and even they gave Judon a raise last year. I don't really care about cash spending...and any FA worth their weight in gold will come here if we pay enough with minor exceptions like Derrick Mason whose wife just didn't want to live in New England.
Sanders was catching passes from the other team who had some back breaking 3rd down conversions off Butler. That is what I was referring to. But also, Sanders and Brady would've torn it up. Yeah Collins whiffing on the routes were really bad.I don't think Manny Sanders would have moved the needle much in the 2015 AFC title game....I mean we were already playing Vollmer with a torn ACL at LT...Brady was under assault that whole game....and there was the Gostkowski missed PAT AND Jamie Collins whiffing on not one, but TWO Owen Daniels seam routes.... oh man...that game still kills me...Gronk was open in the upper right corner of the EZ on the final play....
I was only answering your initial question of players missing out on. But since you asked, here's mine that haven't been mentioned:How about FA's we SIGNED? That should be a part of the calculation, no?
They were lowballing him at the end. You know that, because the numbers are obvious. They were also only giving him one season at a time. All they needed to do to keep him, according to reports, was give him the Drew Brees deal, which was still underpaying.
So? Your argument defending 10 years is that they spent once?
It makes no sense as an example. Let's just move on from it.
They gave Cam one million because they waited until all the other QBs were taken. And the bill, as you put it, could have been pushed forward, and was for money that had actually been paid out, which is not always the same thing as the money in the contract.
There's not really any area for disagreement here. The Patriots spent less than every other team. It's because of Belichick, Kraft, or both. So the team was cheaping out.
And the Patriots were famous for NOT paying the top dollar, so I really don't get why you're white knighting this. You are arguing over what has been known and understood for 20 years. And if you don't really care about the cash spending, then you need to talk to Chris Jones, Kirk Cousins, and DeShaun Watson.
Sanders was catching passes from the other team who had some back breaking 3rd down conversions off Butler. That is what I was referring to. But also, Sanders and Brady would've torn it up. Yeah Collins whiffing on the routes were really bad.
I was only answering your initial question of players missing out on. But since you asked, here's mine that haven't been mentioned:
Rosevelt Colvin
Christian Fauria
Andre Carter
Mark Anderson
Tyronne Poole
Terrell Buckley
Sammy Morris
Wes Welker
Keith Traylor who seems to be the chopped liver when Patriots NT's are talked about.
Marc Edwards
Heath Evans
Jabaal Sheard
They didn't low ball Brady in terms of dollars, but rather the length of contract.
2021 is a good example...when they had the cap space...they spent the money.
OK, moving on from KD.
The media perception was that the Pats did not spend. They spent the money... the cap is a very real thing. It represents money spent this year + money already spent in the past. And Chris Jones' contract will hurt the Chiefs...I mean now they have like 50% of their cap dollars tied to Mahomes, Jones, and Kelce.... I'd be very interested to see if they ask Thuney to restructure or look to trade him...not only Thuney....Sneed is on the franchise tag...and that will only increase next year if they tag him again. Cousins...the man could never get paid until he got to Minnesota...he kept taking the franchise tag to the point where the Skins couldn't pay him anymore... and Watson got the ONLY guaranteed deal in NFL history man....the dude was ready to go to Atlanta before the Browns came in and scooped him up. And I don't have to tell you that his contract is not popular with other NFL owners.
I am gonna do you one better....I am going to do my research and select one season during the BB-Brady era where they spent the LOWEST amount of cash in relation to the cap percentage wise. Be back with that.
Nevermind. Looks like if I want to pull 2000-2023 info from SportTrac...gotta pay up.
From 2000-2024, what FAs did we totally whiff on?
