Patty Mahomes GOAT

He's only 29 years old. The GOAT chase has taken a hit I will admit, but it hasn't closed completely. Still have time to do great things
It really hasn’t taken much of a hit, in terms of where Mahomes is now, versus where he was a month ago. One game never should have been so important to his legacy and really wasn’t, outside of stupid hot takes. The Chiefs wouldn’t have been the best post-merger dynasty with a three peat either. Not even the best four year stretch. No way the 2021-24 Chiefs were better than the 1991-94 Cowboys.

It would have been cool, a real feather in the cap, but it doesn’t actually add 4+ Super Bowls to his total. There are plenty of very great accomplishments in sports. But Joe Dimaggio’s 56 game hit streak doesn’t make him the best hitter of all time. Bart Starr’s three straight championships doesn’t make him the greatest quarterback of all time. Rafael Nadal’s 11 straight French Opens doesn’t make him the best tennis player of all time. If Shaq had won a fourth straight championship with the Lakers, he wouldn’t be considered GOAT.

This was simply Mahomes’s chance at a crowning, unprecedented achievement. Would have been good for him but there’s no way this Super Bowl would count as multiple rings from an all-time rankings standpoint.

Going into the season, I was terrified Mahomes was going to 3 peat. But you could tell there's something seriously off with his game. His mechanics are getting really sloppy. It's only a matter of time the rest of the AFC gets the memo and upgrades their teams as the Chiefs roster continues to erode.

The AFC is retarded I wouldn't be shocked if they make it to the SB again

Mahomes built his legacy on "trick" plays to great players. Well, if you don't have the great players, the "trick" plays don't work as well. Like Jackson, he's a lot easier to stop if you keep him in the pocket and make him play QB without otherworldly talent around him. And, generally speaking, you win titles in the NFL by having a great passing QB and/or having a great defense that can cover for a flawed passing QB.

It's one of the reasonse why the Brady/Manning QB type will eventually return as the better QB type to draft and develop. And it's one of the reasons why Vrabel/McDaniels needs to really rein Maye in.

I do think it was a massive hit to his legacy. Not in terms of him becoming the GOAT or surpassing Brady any time soon BUT to have 3-peated, something that has never been done in the NFL, would have been a huge feather in his cap depending on how his career pans out. It's interesting but when people talk about Jordan, it's never just the 6 titles, it's the two separate 3-peats. And of course it is much easier to stack chips in the NBA than the NFL.

I think what makes this tough for Mahomes as he goes forward is he is entering the time frame where Brady was at his best and Mahomes has already shown decline the last 2 seasons. I don't think enough was written about how he missed the pro bowl this year despite his team only having one legit loss. That speaks volumes to his game and just how average to below average he was this past season. And it's not like the AFC is going to get easier in terms of him making future pro bowls with Allen, Lamar and Burrows and then Stroud, Nix and Maye. I mean the conference is stacked and his division easily has the best set of coaches.

Rewatching SB51. In 4th Q they’re down 28-12 and flash a graphic that Brady has been hit 14 times. Patriots OLine allowed so many quick pressures. Next play Freeney comes around the edge and burns Solder for another sack.

Mahomo is weak. Face it. He needs elite protection (multiple all pro) plus very good skill players.

We were absolutely getting thrashed in that game. Ryan and their RBs were having their way with out defense too. I remember watching and saying to my two brothers how much faster Atlanta was than us everywhere. I still can't believe we really won that game. It was a majestic performance from Brady.

But Mahomes would have thrown a push pass to the RB!
