GameDay Discussion
Is there anyone here who likes either, or both, of these day 2 picks?
I would like them a lot more if they were taken in the 3rd and 5th round, respectively.

And leaving Adonai Mitchell on the board, twice, is going to make passing on Overrated George Pickens seem like a fart in the wind.

At some point, you need motherfucking TALENT on the team. There is NO TALENT on offense. None. There's a bunch of hard workers and good guys. Maybe Maye has talent, we don't know, he's a raw prospect.

Sometimes, you gotta say, 'This guy's 6'4" runs a 4.35, with amazing routes and footwork off the line, separates on nearly every play, and could be a game changer on this team for a decade", as opposed to "He's a solid, hard-working kid and his teammates love him'.

Teams besides the Patriots let Mitchell slide.

Health/preparation concerns, reportedly
It's diabetes, and he struggles to keep it under control himself.

So you hire a dude to give him his shots. This isn't rocket surgery. He'd hardly be the first.

No, he's Kendrick Bourne. To go along with the 4 Kendrick Bourne Non-Separators we already have on the roster.

He'll be a nice player, a fan favorite, won't ever make a pro bowl. I think he'll actually stick, unlike the usual 2nd round WRs.

The team that has said it needs speed at WR just decided not to go for speed at WR.

I'm not defending the choice. I find the decision to ignore speed when outside speed is what's needed to be a highly suspect one.

I'm just noting the situation.

Yeah, I'm just saying it's overblown. It's not like he had both his ACLs removed or something.

When it comes to WR, this team seems to be drunk picking a whole lot. It also seems to be hell bent on trying to find a contested catch guy while not solving the speed issue on the outside.

The best comps out there, as in, the most glowing, are to TJ Houshmanzadeh and Robert Woods.

Neat. We have Kendrick Bourne at home. Times 4.

Haven't seen them on the field yet, of course, but right now, this really does look like the same old shit. And the absolute retards buying Wolf's 'this is who we targeted all along' bullshit is just infuriating.

No, Eliot, you did not target the 13th best offensive tackle in the third round. You didn't. You panicked and fucking took a guy.

I'm mostly with you on this. I get that this is a new group, and that I could be wrong on everything I'm seeing/analyzing. But what I'm seeing is incompetence in building a coaching staff, incompetence in free agency, and incompetence in drafting beyond the easy call of taking Maye. I'm seeing a continuation of the last of the BB years, but without the great defensive mind there to offset some of the collapse.

I really hope I'm wrong, because I hate having shitty sports teams in my area.

Yeah, that's pretty much where I am too. They blew off FA, only signing their own players from a 4-13 team, Gibson, and a bunch of dumpster players, leaving 50 million in cap space. I suppose Maye was the safe pick at 3, although leaving Harrison on the board is tough for a team so devoid of talent on offense. Reach for the 'safe' WR at 2, reach for the 13th best OT at 3 (and tell people it's who you targeted all along), leaving some incredibly talented defensive players on the board, which would have been steals for value. Getting Kool-Aid McKinistry in the 2nd round is highway robbery, making Gonzalez dropping last year look normal.

I worry about the coaching. Van Pelt is a pro, but Jerod Mayo hasn't done anything but say things he has to walk back, because he's clearly not in the loop with the front office. Maybe that will help as a head coach, not even having that responsibility, who knows. Covington is a Mayo nepo hire. I have no idea if he can run a defense, let alone one this good. I'm not sure who the QB coach for Maye is going to be. I'm not sure if the o-line will be well coached. I don't know if the WR group can recover from the disaster that was Troy Brown.

The good news is that we'll find out, and find out pretty quickly. I'm really worried about running five 6' 200 lbs 4.5 40 receivers out there in a timing offense like the West Coast 2 (It's the Mike Shanahan version), with a QB in Maye who's scared to throw into tight windows...when all there will be is tight windows. How will the new offense affect Pop Douglas, who won't have nearly as many option routes anymore?

I'm not expecting miracles, and I won't care if they're 6-11 if they at least look like a functioning operation, which they didn't last year. If you're just bad because you're young, that's completely different than being bad because you're not talented.

One thing I really don't get is why they didn't trade up. The Patriots' biggest problem isn't a lack of depth. It's a lack of high end talent. So why not trade up for that WR1 or LT? Nobody is going to cry about not having a pick in the lower rounds if you come away with elite WR/OT prospects instead of second and third tier guys further down the board.

I mean, I get that the Wolf pup was talking about wanting to add picks, but he didn't even accomplish that with his trade down, so the team doesn't even have that excuse here.

Wolf's been saying a lot of things, directly and through sources.

Chief among them 'Wolf tried to...' or 'The Patriots were in on...'

I'm getting really tired to being asked to swallow that every single time something happens.

Pats took awhile on that one. Couldn't show up day 4 prepared to make the 3rd pick of the day? Almost got my "Pats miss a pick" bet.

If Robinson stands up straight out of snap, as he did in college all too often, he’s going to regularly get tossed into the backfield.

All offense through 4 rounds
