Look I want a shiny new toy at #1 WR too, but for me, Ridley ain't it, especially with that contract/age combo.
How about Hopkins last year? How about trading for Deebo Samuel like the Ravens are trying to do? Or Tee Higgins?

Nope. It's going to be Lavishka Shenault or the equivalent, and your tires will be pumped by 1/4th the production of Ridley at 1/10th the price.

Hate to break it to ya, but it's not my money - I don't care if they're frugal with it.

I'm on record of not being a big Tee Higgins fan, mostly because he gets hurt a lot, but he's young so I'd WAY prefer a huge deal for him. If we go QB at #3 there is still going to be a really good WR on the board with our 2nd pick.

Not referring to Beers, because he seems to have an issue specifically with Ridley, but Patriots fans have been conditioned to think that any player who's not willing to be underpaid in order to play for this team is a greedy bastard who should be shunned by all of society.

And many of them have no clue how free agency actually works when you don't have the G.O.A.T. QB, who can both get guys to take a tiny bit less than they might otherwise have done and get superior play out of lesser players. I mean, just go read up/listen to radio about how people first viewed the Bourne deal.

Just FYI, most Jags fans seem happy they let him walk at that price. I watch more of their games than the average person since I live in their TV area (and I’ve followed guys like Lawrence and Etienne since they came out of HS). He is one of the most explosive receivers in and out of his cuts that I’ve ever seen. That’s no joke. He runs some very sloppy routes, though. It cost the Jags some turnovers this season that they simply didn’t have in their 2022 campaign.

That said? We have a trash WR corps, a ton of cash to burn, and we may have Harrison on a rookie deal for 4-5 seasons. I’d have been absolutely fine with the Pats doing that… even with my reservations on him.

I get it, I just would rather get younger. We are not a playoff team next year, and in two years I know we'd look at that contract and say it was a mistake.

The Patriots still need a WR1 and WR2. They went in on Ridley, but they weren't in it to win it: they were in it to fuck around. And they found out.

And we could pull a 2023-Houston trade back into the first round to take a WR after we draft our QB.... that would cost just as much draft capital as it would Tee Higgins sans the contract...

Three firsts for Daniels and Nabers? I think that is possible....

We don't know the details, Man. It is possible that the Pats were matching the Jags bid when the Titans came in late with 4/92.....

Ridley might end up being great and we missed out... but notice that he had no problem going to Tennessee sans Derrick Henry, new coaching staff, and Will Levis at QB....

So, us not having a GOAT QB probably wasn't a major factor...we already released Mac Jones, weren't in on Cousins/Russ Wilson, and have made clear intentions to draft a QB at #3... dunno about you, but I like our chances with Daniels/Maye vs. Levis or Lawrence....

Sometimes it just comes down to dollars vs. potential production... no idea, but I am sure the Ridley camp at least gave the Pats and Jags the chance to match/exceed....

And can someone omit "Pre-" from the thread title? @Lord Guts
