Gloves and Speedo Workout, Fitness & Nutrition Thread

Guys put so much goddamn weight on the leg press it’s ridiculous. Some guy the other day asked to steal a 45 from the Smith machine I was using. Told him no problem and he added to the press. Talked to him a bit because he was doing 500-600 lbs on there which actually wasn’t absurd compared to others on that machine.

But the guy also had like no leg definition despite his strength. I don’t think leg press really gives you much for glutes or calves at all. He told me he’s been training 25 years to get to this number for weight.

I do leg press as part of my routine, once every six lower leg workouts. I like the exercise but I think you really need variety and to iso muscles.

@Ice_Ice_Brady or anyone else, have you ever done deficit exercises? the instructor who does my strength class has a trainer who loves them so she's making us do them lately. you do regular exercises but you have your foot up on a block. so weighted lunges, one side but one foot on a block. even non weighted can be extra difficult like she had us do knee drives that way for one of our cardio segments.

No thinking about it. You for sure do.

I think I was doing 10 reps of 750 on the Universal Machine when I was in school. IIRC, the bottom set of foot pads was 500 and the top set was 750.

Workouts when you’re about to get sick are so awesome. 👎🏻

I can tell something is coming on even though I don’t feel it yet. I did a normal cardio day and barely made it through the workout. Drenched in even more sweat than usual. Then, I barely make it home without shitting myself. I run in, cheeks clenched, almost trip over the dog, sit down, and just blow some black shitwater out of my ass. I suspect that, later today, the sore throat will start.

Just went and canceled BJJ for tonight already. No way I can roll around on the ground without mudbutt creeping in.

Update: Definitely sick.

No that sounds painful! Similar to BSS?

I was just playing around trying to see what tastes good and tuna + tzatziki is absolutely amazing. My youngest would NEVER eat tuna for nine years and just scarfed down a whole bowl of it. You can get 4x the amount of mayo for same amount of calories and it also tastes better. No need for any other condiments unless you want to give it some kick with hot sauce.

Pretty much every meat out there is better with tzatziki, but I never would have thought to put it on tuna. I’ll give a shot.

that particular exercise with the weights was a similar motion but the block the front leg was up on was just a yoga block. so not too high. but mighty!

@Ice_Ice_Brady et al
yesterday...more deficit stuff...ugh. pushups with first one hand then the other on a block (i can't even...as you all know,i have the arm strength of a 10 yo starving african child)
also,BOTH feet on blocks, and full rdls, touching weights to floor and fully coming up. both feet on blocks, heavies (some used the rdl weights, but i had to go lighter #ugandanchildarms)squat, then lift 1 leg, with overhead press while leg up.
if i remember more exercises, i will post but i may have blacked them out. 🤣

Sorry missed this before.

I hate pushups…can’t imagine trying them with one arm! So much stress put on wrist and shoulders.

Sounds like the RDLs were essentially stiff legged deadlifts.

This sounds like a really painful workout

I’ve completely gotten rid of overhead pressing because a combination of my shoulder/rotator cuff issues and also questions about the overall benefit with hypertrophy. I don’t really see how there’s a lot of muscle being worked here…I think it’s primarily putting stress on the tendons, ligaments, and supporting armpit/side of back.

Instead I’ve started doing, for shoulders:

Full Shoulders (focus on upper)
  • Dips (assisted, with machine)
  • Pull Ups (assisted with machine)
  • Upright rows
Rear Shoulders
  • Dumbbell reverse flies
  • Reverse pec dec machine
  • Cable face pulls
Side Shoulders
  • Lateral raises (dumbbell and cable.) Very light weight, high rep.
